So I'm making my first IW list and I'm having trouble with picking some HQ's. I'm taking two detachments, Vanguard and Spearhead. So far I got...

[Vanguard]
-Troops-
10x CSM's, 2x Plasma Guns, Power Axe, Combi-plasma

-Elites-
Helbrute w/ Power Scourge + Twin Lascannon
Helbrute w/ Missile Launcher + Twin Lascannon
Helbrute w/ Helbrute Fist w/ Combi-bolter + Twin Heavy Bolter

[Spearhead]
-Troops-
10x CSM's, 2x Plasma Guns, Power Axe, Combi-plasma

-Heavy Support-
Havocs x7, 4x Missile Launchers
Havocs x7, 4x Heavy Bolters
Obliterators x3
Predator w/ Twin Lascannon + 2x Lascannons

I have 486 points remaining and not quite sure what to do with them.

Is there anything I should change with what I have so far? I would have liked to add a Demolisher in the list but they seem very lackluster right now.

Definitely drop the oblits. Then maybe get some bubblewrap, and more havocs with las? How fluffy are you going? Vindicators are fluffy, but not great in-game.

Oblits aren't that good at the moment so I agree to drop them. If you want a deep striking unit with a bit of punch you could get some melta terminators or maybe raptors.

For HQs the Warpsmith is the obvious choice. It fits the lore and he can heal up your Helbrutes or Predator when they get damaged. For your other HQ it's a toss up between the Lord or Sorcerer. I'd say go for the Lord unless you want access to Warp Time to throw onto your Helbrutes.

If you have any points left I'd look at getting another Predator or maybe something cool from FW like the Sicaran.

What saint_red said.

+1 for "Ditch the Oblits." I was hoping the recent FAQ would have changed them for the better, but for now they should be shelved.

I like the idea of a Sorcerer and a Lord moving forward with the Hellbrutes - the Lord to give some rerolls and the Sorcerer to fend off psychics and to Warp Time at a clutch moment.

It does really depend on how you're going to use your units. What is your general game-plan? Are you planning to group up those 3 Hellbrutes and charge up the middle? Are you planning on creating a firebase with the Havocs and maybe Predator?

If you do add another Predator (or any vehicle to hang back with the other Pred), I'd consider a Warpsmith and a Lord back there with them to give healing to the vehicles and rerolls on 1s.

Cultists might be warranted depending on your meta, but I'd get those last and only if you really need a bubble wrap (its not necessary amongst my group).

Ok, how does this look?

<Vanguard Detachment>
-HQ-
Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour - Chainfist, Combi-melta - 163
Sorcerer in Terminator Armour - Force stave, Combi-plasma - 169

-Troops-
Chaos Space Marines x10 - 2x Plasma guns, Combi-plasma - 171

-Elites-
Chaos Terminators x5 - 5x Power Axe, 5x Combi-melta - 275
Helbrute - Power scourge, Twin lascannon - 165
Helbrute - Helbrute fist w/ Combi-bolter, Twin heavy bolter - 131

<Spearhead Detachment>
-HQ-
Warpsmith - 109

-Troops-
Chaos Space Marines x10 - 2x Plasma guns, Combi-plasma - 171

-Heavy Support-
Chaos Predator - Twin lascannon, 2x Lascannons - 202
Chaos Predator - Predator autocannon, 2x Heavy bolters, combi-bolter - 173
Havocs x5 - 4x Lascannons - 165
Havocs x5 - 4x Heavy bolters - 131

My plans so far is....

Chaos Lord will drop down with the terminators in the enemy backfield to hopefully pop a couple vehicles/monsters and cause some commotion.

Not sure whether to stick the Sorcerer with the rest of the terminators or have him stick with the rest of the army and cast warp time on the brutes.

Warpsmith will be repairing the predators. Lascannon pred will be targeting vehicles/monsters and terminator equivalents. The autocannon pred will be dealing with light infantry.

Chaos space marines will be running towards objectives.

Helbrutes will be charging up the field to get into close combat while shooting each turn. Kinda straight forward.

Havocs will be in cover with a wide view of the battlefield hopefully being left alone while they do their business.

Also, I desperately want Oblits and Mutilators to be worthwhile when the codex drops. Please GW! Just make them how they used to be and give them power fists. It's so easy.
