Made a destroyer 'star' for fun whilst list building since it needed 3 HQs to be buffed to the max, but then realised most lists I've been building today need 3 HQ anyway unless just sticking to a single battalion detachment, so thought if they need to be taken anyway, why not just go ahead and do the 'star'.

So the idea is an Overlord with res orb and hyperphase sword, a Destroyer Lord with res orb and hyperphase sword and a Cryptek alongside 2 units of 4 destroyers + 1 heavy destroyer each (I do believe the destroyers themselves seem very overpriced on paper but hey ho). This means that 1 Destroyer unit is hitting on a 2+ with rerolls whilst the other is hitting on a 3+ with rerolls of 1. Both units are rerolling 1s to wound. Also both units get a 5++ and a 4+rp. If a unit gets reduced to the extent that its rp rolls only leave it with 2 or 3 models, then there are 2 res orbs to roll that rp again, making these insanely durable units. Due to the rerolls they will delete a heavy tank a turn and do over half damage to most superheavies on average. Still cost a crazy amount of points to do that so the rest of the list needs to be cheap chaff to lock up the opponent or high rate of fire units to deal with the hordes and cheap light vehicles that destroyers simply dont have the number of shots to whittle down.

Don't get me wrong - I know its not the most effective star the games ever seen but its durability should be hilarious and give 7th ed Cawl a run for his money. The Res orbs are most likely an overindulgence that could be 70pts put to better use such as 4 more Scarab Swarms and another Immortal... but im just drawn to that durability like a moth to a flame

Drop both Heavy Destroyers and get a Stalker with Twin Heavy Gauss. same shooting profile as the Destroyers just cannot re-rolling 1s and if it moves it will get -1 to it's BS but you can then use it's targeting relay for the rest of your crons to re-rolling hit rolls of 1.

What is your plan for the Destroyer Lord? Is he there for re-rolling wound rolls of 1 or to he a Counter CC for your 2 destroyer units? I would personally swap him for another Olord or CCB so you have both units hitting on 2s re-rolling 1s
