BLOOD ANGELS DEPLOYMENT

Scouts take up position in the fort, tanks and transports fan out, Rapiers, Devastators and Captain in ruins and jump units in orbit…

BIEL-TAN DEPLOYMENT

Sneaking in the shadows, out of sight…

BIEL-TAN TURN 1

Eldar swarm over the side of the fort and make short work of the Blood Angels scouts…

First Blood

The Crimson Hunter and Artillery barely scratch the paintwork of the Blood Angels armour but the Vyper does some damage to a Baal Predator after a Farseer weakens it with Doom…

The War Walkers take out a Rapier before it has a chance to fire – the gunners duck for cover and come out unscathed…

BLOOD ANGELS TURN 1

The Sanguinary Guard and their commanders descend from orbit and make an immense leap to slice through the Eldar artillery like a hot knife through butter…

The Blood Angels armour focuses fire on the Crimson Hunter and blow it out of the sky…

BIEL-TAN TURN 2

The Vyper finishes off the Baal Pred…

Despite their master-crafted armour and concealed position, the Sanguinary Guard take heavy losses from massed Eldar firepower…

BLOOD ANGELS TURN 2

The Red Thirst takes the Sanguinary Guard and their escort, and they charge headlong into a massacre of overwatch and failed charges…

The remaining Baal Pred and Devastators whittle away at the Eldar in the fort…

BIEL-TAN TURN 3

It takes the entire Eldar force to bring down the Blood Angels HQs

Slay the Warlord

BLOOD ANGELS TURN 3

With the forward position overrun, the Blood Angels consolidate to defend their own objective…

BIEL-TAN TURN 4

The Eldar march en-masse, taking pot-shots as they go…

BLOOD ANGELS TURN 4

Blood Angels covering fire makes short work of the Guardians…

BIEL-TAN TURN 5

The remaining Eldar continue to put pressure on the defenders…

BLOOD ANGELS TURN 5

The beleaguered Angels make a last stand around the objective, with the Devastators and Rapier providing covering fire under command of the lone Captain…

BIEL-TAN TURN 6

In a brutal round of shooting, the remaining Eldar take down the tactical marines to a man. Dire Avengers move on the objective and jetbike-borne Farseers threaten the Blood Angels’ position…

BLOOD ANGELS TURN 6

Devastators and Rapier fire whittle down the Dire Avengers and destroy another Walker. The Rhino rams the Avengers killing another, but three remain to claim the objective. The other Rhino does likewise to the Farseers but fails to finish them…

Linebreaker

Meanwhile the lone Warlock has sneaked onto the Eldar’s own objective…

FINAL SCORE

BIEL-TAN: 9
BLOOD ANGELS: 0

A sad day for Baal.

Lessons learned:

spectacular as the charge from deep strike was (I rolled 11, 10, 10 and 9 to bring the Guard, Libby and Priest all into combat), this left them in a vulnerable position with so many of the Eldar still being in that half of the battlefield. This was compounded when the Red Thirst took me and I attempted to make another assault the following turn, when I should have counted my blessings and fallen back to a defensive position – especially as the Priest can revive one squad member per turn (and indeed did so once).

In general I also spread my forces out too much and should have kept everything tighter, units supporting each other. I forgot until the last turn that Rhinos can charge (and thus eat Overwatch!). I also kept forgetting my Command Points and ended the game with 6 out of 7 un-spent…

It was a fun game. It was close in terms of models left on the table.

Charging a 20 strong guardian squad with guide up for rerolls is brave.

The Blood Angels captain also needs to remember that command points are no use in the afterlife.

Could you zoom out more on the pictures next time? Can't see what the whole board looks like.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Thanks for the report - my son is looking at building BA or Flesh Tearers. That was some nasty firepower coming at your HQ!

Your Rhino had a spectacular charge killing four Dire Avengers. My Rhinos have 3 Attacks with WS 6+. Was this through a combination of shooting, charging and a failed morale test?

All you have to do is fire three rounds a minute, and stand

True, at least the Blood Angels made it a costly victory for the Eldar!

ColonelFazackerley wrote:Charging a 20 strong guardian squad with guide up for rerolls is brave.

When that decision was made there were only two Sanguinary Guard left (plus one more got resurrected on the way). I think they had a little too much faith in their armour

Well he lives to fight another day, so beware!

Yes I think the Devastators actually killed those ones on the left, the Rhino got the one next to the three survivors. I'll edit that. It is 3A 6+ – I remember it getting at least one 6 to hit.

Great report. Beautiful army you've got there.

BTW a Sanguinary Guard Ancient is an Elite choice not an HQ.

Blood Angels look amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.

Nice report LM and despite the loss, I still have faith in the sons of Baal!

(P.S. I've also got a Deimos Pred on the way to convert into a Baal variant )

Thanks both!

@ Elnibbus, which variant did you go for? I really want to do a flamer Baal Pred from the Infernus version!

Great looking armies and terrain. Any shots of the overall board?

I'm afraid not, but we're playing again soon so will try to remember to take some.

And thanks!

I bought the standard pattern and scratch-built some assault cannons for it (started a second set for when I add another predator to the motor pool )

@OP, how did you run both a Spearhead and Batallion? You would need 3 HQ minimum (1 for Spearhead, 2 for battalion).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I did have three HQs:
- Captain
- Librarian
- Sanguinary Priest

The Priest was missing from the list in the OP (have corrected) but was accounted for in the roster.
