I have a small tournament in about a month. Rules are: 1250pts, nothing over 15 power level, must be a patrol detachment. I'm playing necrons. I'm new to 40k in general (played about 5 games) and have some warriors, wraiths, scarabs, spiders, a stalker, and an overlord. I'm looking to expand my army and want some advice on best value / essentials. If this is the wrong forum let me know and I'll post elsewhere. From my reading around here I get the idea that I should take 2 Doomsday Arks , a Cryptek (or character equivalent), a blob of 20 Warriors, and a Ghost Ark. Using the leftover points I filled the list with scarabs and some Deathmarks. The plan is to camp the DDA in the back and shoot at any dreads or vehicles I can. Meanwhile the silver tide camps 2-3 objectives and waits out the other army. If there is a juicy target or poorly secured objective the scarabs will sneak over and tar pit. Deathmarks because they deep strike and can counter my opponents reserves the turn they arrive. I could switch in Orikan instead of the Cryptek, and drop 1 elite and 2 scarabs. Likewise I could trade the Deathmarks for Flayed Ones, Warriors, or Immortals. My play group consist of some raven guard, tau, genestealer cult, orcs, space wolves, salamanders, and likely some other space marines (since the codex dropped not too long ago).
Suggestions, thoughts, ideas, pointers would be great.
As a list I'm thinking:
[][]HQ[][]
Cryptek
[][]Troops[][]
Warriors x 20
[][]Elite[][]
Deathmark x6
[][]Fast[][]
Scarabs x8
Scarabs x8
[][]Heavy[][]
Doomsday Ark
Doomsday Ark
[][]Transport[][]
Ghost Ark

Should I switch the DDA out for Stalkers? The twin heavy shots are more reliable. The downside is half the range, less wounds, and the stalkers only have 1 gun. I could also swap in 5 heavy destroyers. But again, less range and less wounds.
I'm not sold on the Deathmarks. Do you have any thoughts on changing that to Flayed ones or Warriors?
6 Deathmarks is not that good tbh, you would want maybe 8-10 to make sure you knocking down the unit your firing at. So, maybe swap 2 warriors and Scarabs for 2 for Desthmsrks?
Or, you could get rid of the Deathsmarks for a Lord so you can re-rolling morale as necrons lost to morale cannot come back via Reanimation Protocols. At all. And put the rest of their points then into the Scarabs or res orb.
This is much more "silver tide" and I'm thinking about the comparative effectiveness at 1250pts. While this may be the core of a 2k point list I don't know if it'll have the same impact without the heavy guns to crack hard targets. The advantage of this list is that it may hold objectives better. I'd sit the two 10 warrior squads in the arks so the deployment count is the same. My hope is that I can pick 1 thing a turn, target it with the stalker, and then unload 60 gauss shots, rerolling 1s. The math comes to 46 shots at -1 AP, wounding most things on 5+, coming to 15 good hits and 7 actual wounds (assuming a 3+ save reduced to 4+). That should kill any standard marine unit. RP should make it hard for opponents to remove the total firing strength of the army. Scarabs to run down any objectives I clear off, or prevent deep strike, or charges.
I like the last list more but id change to the other named cryptek since he buffs warriors better and has the eldrich lance which gives you another good weapon vs vehicles and monstrous creatures. that stalker also does a good job synergizing with the lance incase the stalker doesn't kill it maybe the lance will finish it off. I'd switch to two 20 man warriors squads and walk next to the ghost arks. they can always get in if you get low with one of your squads untill you regenerate to 10 and get back out again. If you want you could always take out a warrior or two for a scarab and make 3 squads of 3 to get an extra command point because being able to auto pass a morale save for your big warrior squads is what you'll need an even amount for.
