Flawless Perfection: Units with this trait always fight first in the Fight Phase even if they didn't charge. If the enemy has units that have charged, or have a similar ability, then alternate choosing units to fight with, starting with the player whose turn is taking place.

Excess of Violence (1CP): Use this stratagem before an EMPEROR'S CHILDREN INFANTRY unit attacks in the fight phase. Each time a model in that unit slays an enemy model, it an immediately make another hit roll using the same weapon at the same target. These bonus Attacks cannot generate further attacks.

Endless Cacophony: 2 CP to let a slaanesh infantry or biker units shoot again.

Slaanesh-Delightful Agonies Warp Charge 6. target Slaanesh unit within 18" has a 5+ Feel no Pain.

Relic - Replaces bolt pistol. 6" range, assault d6, S user, ap-1, 1 damage. Can be fired in combat. If an enemy character is wounded by this, roll a die, on a 6+ it takes d3 mortal wounds.

Warlord Trait - +1 attack for each wound your warlord takes. Caps out at +3.

What ideas have fans of EC come up with so far?

Flawless Perfection is nice for round 2 of melee,
so good for my Noise marine assault squads (Bolt pistol and chainsword)

Death to the False Emporer with the Icon
allows some nice extra rolls from the assault Noise Marines

Endless Cacophany will be nice for 10 man Noise marine squads with 2 blastmasters, 8 sonic blasters...
much dakka!

Delightful Agonies
good for many uses, I'm planning on using it for my Warp Talons to give the 3+/5++/5+++

Relic looks nice for HTH characters!
probably for my dark Apostle
or if I build a HTH Lord

I've run EC three times now, and won (closely) all three;
Heretic Chaos Cult, Genestealers, Dark Angle Death Company

nice amount of shooting,
good assault w/ HTH Noise Marines
Noise Brutes are great! (done mine with twin blastmasters and squigly arm power scourge thing)

Thoughts?

DP
Sorc Term
WS

Noise Marines

Noise Marines

Terminators

Fellblade

Reserves: Sorcerer + Terminators, which then leaves 6 drops to hopefully get first turn.

Noise Marines are chaff and objective grabbers. DP and Warpsmith stick with the Fellblade. Terminators and Sorcerer, Deep Strike and focus down a key targets!

So, the thread that summarizes the YouTube reviews of the new Chaos codex states that cult units can no longer be taken as Troops. Anyone have verification of that?

That'll change how the army works. Over the years I've built 50 noise marines and I like to use them as troops (most editions have allowed for this). If they are not troops now, then I'll have to use the Vanguard detachment (HQ + Elites) or buy deamonettes/cultists/marines as my Troops and NM as my Elites. I'm fine either way, but I'd prefer them to be Troops.

I'm also painting up some of my extra 30k Emperor's Children models as Chaos. I'll have a unit of 10 Palatine Blades as a unit of melee Noise Marines (with doom siren on the champ) and a unit of 10 Kakophoni as sonic blaster Noise Marines. For added fun, I'm using Eidolon as a Chaos Lord with jump pack wielding a power maul (probably black mace rules).

Then jam most of that in my Storm Eagle and go take a few objectives. :-)

Reecius from frontline gaming confirmed berserkers and noise marines are still troops in the codex and he not only has the codex but is a play tester and seems to have contact with GW.

Woot!

Wonderful. Then I'll plan on having those 10 melee armed noise marines (palatine blades), with a lord and sorcerer as an assault force. With Death to the False Emperor, an Icon of Excess, Delightful Agonies, and Excess of violence, it should put the hurt on most imperials.

Cacophony seems baller as hell when put on terminators or even oblits.

Combi-plas termies are way better generally speaking but they're also more expensive. You need 300 points of plasmacide termies to get the same volume of shots as a 200 point obliterators squad.

So with oblits you're putting put 24 shots that with average rolls are strength 8, ap2 damage 2.

If you spring for a full ten-man plasma termie squad (500 points!) you're looking at 40(!) plasma shots.

Give either unit prescience and they're hitting on 2s.

Noise marines with Excess of violence + veterans of the long war + music of the apocalypse vs swarms is absolutely brutal especially with sonic blasters, and even more brutal if the enemy unit is imperium.

Very true, Obliterators look really nice. Shame the models look crap (IMO), I was thinking about converting some Centurions.

AFAIK you can't take noise marines as troops in the new codex. In that case, would you go with normal CSM or Cultists as troops?

CSM are pretty crap, so I take cultists just to burn as few points as possible.

I agree chaos space marines are awful troops, there lack of specialization makes them incredibly poor, it is quite a shame that we lost troop noise marines they filled a really solid role as objective campers.

I'd go with csm. For just 25 pts more than cultists you get a semi-reliable scoring unit that can even throw a krak grenade to boot and has 2+ armor in cover. They're a smaller unit that can also be close to immune to morale issues. You can also put them in a vehicle like rhino alongside something else you want to bring there - like a squad of chosen or havoks with plasmas. They also look cooler.

10 man Terminator squad with as much plasma you can get

Drop 9.1 inches away from the opponents anti-tank/anti- TEQ. Then Endless Cacophony for 20 x 2 plasma shots in a single turn. Creating an Alpha Strike army with staying power.

with NM as troops again, and DP getting legion trait, I can't wait to play some games.
A terminator sorc teleporting in with a unit of 5-10 combi-plasma termies and/or oblits, with the DP running around with some CC NM in rhinos.
How viable is lucius now? i always loved using him in the past, but haven't had a game of 8th to know weather its worth taking him over another HQ slot, and if its worth buying another HQ to replace him in more competitive games

Current armies: Chaos marines 1800pts

Note that, following the FAQ, Noise marines are indeed troops for emperor's children.

Page 135 – Noise Marines, Abilities
Add the following ability:
‘Masters of the Kakophoni: The Battlefield Role of
Emperor’s Children Noise Marines is Troops instead
of Elites.’

However, shooty noise marines probably prefer to be something like Alpha Legion so that they are hard to shoot dead. Choppy noise marines are good as Emperor's Children. For a shooty unit, being harder to shoot probably helps more than fighting first in combat, which won't have all that much effect.

It's quite scary to think of the effect 10 deep striking terminators with double-firing plasma guns would have. They sound horrible.
