Welcome to my hobby blog! This will be an attempt to reduce my massive backlog of 40K miniatures and GW board games. Maybe posting pics here will motivate me a bit? I will try to update every week, but life tends to intervene!

A bit about my (GW) hobby background: I entered the world of GW with Warhammer Fantasy 5th edition (The red box with Bretonnians and Lizardmen) back in 1996. After painting up the Lizardmen from the box I moved on to collecting Orcs & Goblins and Dark Elves. During 1997-1998 I also played a lot of Gorkamorka and a bit of Blood Bowl. When Warhammer 40.000 3rd edition came out in 1998 I started collecting a Blood Angels army (no, not because of the infamous Rhino Rush tactic!). When the Armageddon campaign rolled around in 2000 I really liked the fluff and colour scheme for the Salamanders so I re-painted my marines green. By the time Warhammer Fantasy 6th edition came out I had more or less stopped playing, so I sadly never got into the new edition. I continued collecting and painting Salamanders and around 2003 I started a Necron army as well. In 2004 WH40K 4th edition came out and this coincided with my most active time as a 40K player. My Salamanders and Necrons had many clashes with my cousin’s Thousand Sons and Tau during 2003-2006. During this time I also collected a bit of Eldar and Chaos Space Marines. By the time WH40K 5th edition was released I had more or less stopped playing and moved on to painting and collecting. During 6th edition I had a bit of a gaming revival (well, at least two games a year) and I also started collecting Orks, Tyranids and a bit of Dark Eldar. Lately I have mostly painted miniatures from GW board games such as Space Hulk and Assassinorum: Execution Force.

Currently (August 2017) I’m working on Deathwatch: Overkill, and the latest miniatures I finished were two Neophyte Hybrids with Mining Lasers:

I've got half of the Acolyte Hybrids left to paint, and nearly all of the Neophytes. And the Deathwatch Marines of course.

I've also decided to finish off some half-painted miniatures before starting any new projects, so now I'm working on these Dark Eldar Mandrakes:

I also need to finish off a few scratch-built hills I've been working on:

So, my main projects in the near future will be:

Finishing off Deathwatch: Overkill
Clearing out half-painted miniatures (Mainly from my Tyranids, Dark Eldar and Chaos Space Marines armies)
Painting and flocking some hills

Thanks bbb!

I've gotten some more work done on the Mandrakes. Since last post I've added a wash of Reikland flesh to the skin cloaks (basecoated Bugman's glow) and a Nuln oil to the hair (basecoated Celestra grey):

After that I drybrushed the skin cloaks with Cadian fleshtone (heavy drybrush) and then with Kislev flesh (light drybrush focusing on the edges). The hair was drybushed with Celestra grey (heavily) and then Ulthuan grey (more lightly) and finally White scar (light drybrush focusing on the very edges of the hair):

Next step will be to paint the green glowing runes and the flames around the hands.

I've also added most of the basecoats to the next batch of cultists (the skin on the neophytes remain). After this stage is done I will add the washes.

I decided to try out painting the flames and runes on one of the models, and I'm rather happy with the result. I've used Caliban green, Warpstone glow, Moot green and Yriel yellow:

Now I will have to do this stage on the remaining four and then I can go on to highlighting the skin.

Thanks youwashock! The cloaks turned out alright I think.

I've finished the runes and balefire around the hands on all five Mandrakes:

Next up will be highlighting the dark skin.

Finally finished off the Mandrakes! I think Jes Goodwin did a really good job on sculpting these, and they really drew me into the Dark Eldar. Great models to paint, but Finecast leaves a lot to be desired.

I went with a Dark reaper/Fenrisian grey highlight on the skin.

Finally got some work done on the cultists! I've applied the washes, so now it's on to highlighting.

@youwashock: Glad you like them!

I've managed to finish six Neophyte hybrids as well as the remaining six Acolyte hybrids:

Quite a lot of detail on these, so they take some time to do.

I have eight Neophytes coming up next, and then all the Cult elements from Deathwatch: Overkill will be finished.

It's been a while, but here's the last of the Cultists!

With that the Genestealer Cult force is done! Now...onto the Deathwatch Marines!
