So i'm facing something of an interesting dilemma with my latest batch of heresy thousand sons. I've been using Alclad to paint up the candy red armor, and i love the results that it gives. A nice high gloss and sheen without having to use any varnish. Now the latest set that i've painted up, as well as my last rhino have gone.. strange. The finish itself looks the same as all the rest, no noticeable difference in the shade, hue, or anything of the sort. The figure itself though is left with a.. for lack of better terms.. tacky stick to it. I know the paint is dry, nothing rubs off of flakes off. At this point, it seems more of an annoyance then anything else, but i'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to why this might be happening, and any ideas on how to stop it from happening again. My first thought was to give them a once over of gloss varnish, but im concerned that might alter the look of the figures from how they are now.

Oh stop complaining, its for the greater good... Now get in the box!

In the casting shack.

I hear sticky miniatures is normally a byproduct of SoB players in all seriousness though could it have something to do with the weather?

I have never used that brand of paint but I did have something similar happen to another paint I used. If I remember it stems from me just using it straight from the pot after leaving it to sit for a month or two and the medium (the liquid acrylic that holds the pigment) separated from the pigment and I ended up applying more "paint" than I realized and it dried to a tacky, gel-like substance on top of the model. I ended up having to strip it.

Again, it was a different brand of paint and may be a different circumstance, but it sounds similar to your situation.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Im not thinking that weather had anything to do with the stickiness. Everything was done indoors, climate controlled.

MechaEmperor, I've given that some thought, But i had everything shaken up and mixed up before running it though my airbrush onto the figures. Except for the tackyness of the finished, dryed paint, everything else looks just the same as the other figures that dont have that problem.

Im wondering acutally, if it has anything to do with the Nuln Oil Gloss wash i put on after..

Quite possibly. I'd leave it a day or so to see if it goes away as the paint finishes curing, and if not then a coat of sealer is probably your best bet.

I had an issue where I didn't wash the model beforehand and the primer was tacky, I think there was mold release on it still. Humidity does have an effect also if its super high like 80% or more, like after a rain storm or what not. I could be wrong but I've had it happen, I use primarily spray paint not an airbrush
