Hey all,

Just looking for some advice when it comes to the Iron Warriors and their armoury, at present I'm looking for an army list which can be carried between 30k and 40k but this isn't essential.

  • I've been looking at Terminator's for my roster but I'm caught between the Cataphractii and the Tartaros suits, from what I've read it would appear as though they would be well stocked on both accounts but I'm not sure which would be more prevalent within their armoury. Cataphractii are edging out for me at present as there is a Captain in Cataphractii armour available whereas there is no such model or rules for one in Tartaros armour.

  • I was also looking at Dread's and I was considering fielding Contemptor's over the Hellbrutes as I'm assuming these can also be fielded in 40k as Iron Warrior's units based off their lore/fluff within the CSM Codex, although I would need the datacards from the LSM Codex.

  • For Heavy support I was looking at Havoc's as I'm assuming these can be used for 30k and 40k. I was also looking at the Vindicator's for my tank option.

  • Finally I was looking at some Rhino's, especially based off some of the lore with a Troop option of standard marines in Mk. III Power Armour.

  • I realise that there's a lot of ground to cover in the above and I'm just after some general feedback but at the moment the decision on the Terminator Armour front is holding me back more than anything.

As long as you have the FW Forces of Chaos Index, Contemptors are available for 40K, they have their own entry as Hellforged Contemptors. Same applies to Deredeos and Leviathans.

As for lore/fluff is entirely up to you, but personally, I would believe that they have a lot of well maintained "relic" items.

I've also got a fairly extensive IW Legion army that I am working on using for 30K and 40K

I'd suggest looking through both the Astartes and Chaos FW indexes and GW codexes too, no reason to pigeonhole your army as one force when they can be used to represent all kinds of different forces.

For example I'm using the SW index entries along with the Astartes FW index. This way I get to use my Domitar Ferrum as Venerable Dreadnoughts with Fenrisian Axes and Blizz shields, nice thing being they can act as body guards to any characters with less than 10 wounds.

I'm using my ML HSSs as Long Fangs and putting a Tyrant Siege Terminator with them to represent a TDAWG pack leader with Cyclone launcher

Conversely, I'm eventually going to use them as actual Iron Warriors using my Tyrant terminators to represent Obliterators

Just some food for thought on keeping your lists flexible to represent the models you have.
