So my play-style tends to be a reaction (control, blue magic the gathering) sort of style (opponent makes move, I counter move). Which army would fit that style of play most closely?

I would think any army with high movement would work well as a reaction army, though I wouldn't have your whole army based around that concept. You want to make your opponent work around what you're doing, and force them into plays they might not want to make. By purely playing on reaction, your opponent can easily manipulate your forces as you will only work on what he's doing.

If you can't believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Dakka who believes in you!

A deepstrike nighthaunt army fits this - decide where you want your stuff depending on where the enemy is/objectives are. Pepper with summoning to tailor your list on the fly

Or a blitz beastmen army. Cheap bodies, run+charge to gain quick board control and objective cap. They die in droves, but can punch hard on the first few rounds if done right. This is what I am working on now.

Stormcast can build this if you take a number of ranged units/units with ranged attacks and Gryph-Hounds.

Gryph-Hounds let you control the battle space fairly effectively with their "Warning Cry" as if there are units using alternate deployment methods, you get to make free shots at them if they deploy within a certain distance.
I think Aetherwings can do the same.

The Assassin army might fit the bill...though it's equivilent in MTG would be playing the Stasis deck from years ago

And before I forget, the Wanderers(what used to be Wood Elves) just saw some pretty significant changes with their "Melt Away" rule that allows their shooting units to Fall Back with no penalties, letting you do some nastiness with the Waystone Pathfinders warscroll battalion.

One possible idea for a reaction based army could be a mixed chaos army heavily focused on demon summoning. Need speed to grab objective go Slaanesh, need to turtle up go Nurgle, ect. The biggest issue with this however is that you would effectively need about 4 armies worth of models to truly pull this off at its full potential.

To those that say there is no stupid questions I say, "Is this a stupid question?"

Tzeentch daemons centered around2 lords of change with horrors with there multiplication. and a lot of points in summoning.
That way you control via fate dice, control via summoning and you get to keep tzeentch allegiance without being limited to tzeentch daemons. Summon whatever you need to the battlefield and your battleline is hard to get rid of as there ability is always replenishing the ranks.

Can't get more control then being a minion of the great manipulator
