I'm a relatively new player who tries to set up a decent list for non-competitive play, which should be nevertheless tough to beat. I have assembled a bunch of models so far, but need help to get the remaining points filled. Here is what I got so far:
HQ
Captain 74pt
Troops
5 Tactical Squad 103pt
1 Space Marine Sergeant, Combi-flamer, Chainsword
4 Space Marine, Multi-melta
5 Tactical Squad 103pt
1 Space Marine Sergeant, Combi-flamer, Chainsword
4 Space Marine, Multi-melta
5 Tactical Squad 101pt
1 Space Marine Sergeant, Combi-flamer, Chainsword
4 Space Marine, Missle launcher
5 Tactical Squad 101pt
1 Space Marine Sergeant, Combi-flamer, Chainsword
4 Space Marine, Missle launcher
I've considered adding up a Librarian and I feel the need for some heavy fire support. Maybe some Dreadnoughts, Razorbacks or maybe Terminators. I'm not sure what is more efficient in 1000pt games.

Twin assault cannon razorbacks are always good!
Multimeltas are good, but very price, a plasma cannon/ gun might be better.
Personally I love dreads so I am bias towards them. But they are pricey.
Consider some speed, assassins that deep strike/ assault marines/ speeders. At the moment that is a good core. but requires speed and some tough things to kill.

Speed is a very good point. I updated the list with a squad of assault marines and treated the captain with a jump pack. I would like to keep the meltas for now. I guess I stated the points for the captain wrong. I guess I have to pay the 3pt for the Master-crafted boltgun. There are roughly 200p left. Is it worth considering replacing the Assault Squad with Terminators? I also need one more HQ to be able to play Batallion Detachment. Librarian or Lieutenant?

Jump pack libby for some smiting goodness with your assault marines and get a second squad of assault marines.
P.s. flamers suck on assault marines since they deepstrike 9" away and flamers have 8" range. Plasma pistols would be better

I think that an additional Assault Squad and a JP Librarian would make a decent and well balanced list! But I have come to the conclusion that I dont really like the jump packs on the marines, though there are good tactical choices. I fiddled a bit with the points and come up with the following update to the list and would like to know if this is also decent.
HQ
Captain, Bolt Pistol, Master-crafted boltgun, Powersword, Sanctic Halo 81pt
Lieutenant Bolt Pistol, Master-crafted boltgun, Powersword 67pt
Troops
Tactical Squad 103pt
1 Space Marine Sergeant, Combi-flamer, Chainsword
4 Space Marine, Multi-melta

Hey German exile friend! Do you want to optimize the list for maximal damage output or just maintain a fun list to play?
