Hey guys, I found an offer I want to take, but I thought to ask the community. Long story short, is this a great deal?

Included in the package:

14 rhino scale tanks
1 tactical squad
21 HQ Units
OOP jetbike
8 dreadnaughts
8 land speeders
3 attack bikes
30 bikes
2 stormravens
4 stormtalons
1 drop pod
20 devestators
15 scouts
4 land raiders

This I can buy for a Canadian grand. Which is about 792 USD. Should I buy this? The value I calculated overall would be in total, new, $3454. In USD, that's $2375. On paper it looks like a great deal. What do you think? Is it good, great, bad?

The question is do you really need all of that? I avoid large lots like this specifically because I end up with a ton of junk that I know I will never use and will likely collect dust. I get a deal, sure, but if it was hard enough for him to move it without putting it in a huge lot like this, it's gonna be even harder to move piecemeal.

Whats the condition of the lot? Are they legit and not resin from China or Recasts?

I know they're not resin a lot is unpainted and it's clearly the FW plastic.

a grand for that much seems nice. id say it fully depends on the condition and how much work you are willign to put into it

It's a great deal assuming most of it's in good to excellent condition. Paint's not an issue since there's plenty of ways to strip it, but I'd make sure you have good pictures (or even in person access) to make sure that most of the models are actually in good condition.

I've seen plenty of decent deals online only to realize on further inspection that most of the models are about one step removed from being wrecked.

I think it's a bit of a waste to get THAT many tanks, but eh, whatever you wanna do.

Most of that stuff you will never use. For around 800 bucks you can can build whatever army you want. Pick the exact units the way you want to about 3000 points. Or you can buy a nice painted army for about that too and do 0 work. This is a huge lot but obviously someone that is just trying to dumb a ton of stuff he doesn't care about. the value is there but It's going to be quite the hassle to go through all of that stuff...fix it up...and all that jazz. Me personally when I want a new army I just buy the models I want and collect about 3000 points. Can be done for about a grand.

That's a huge lot. You could buy it, keep what you want, and sell the rest on ebay. No idea how well that would work out for you.

yeah honestly with thats up you could probably stand to keep anything you can make into sets like 3 preds 3 Vinny and like a rhino chassis for each of your units that you can fully make

then sell the rest

id take a look at the book and see what you can make and what you would like to run.

depending on the people you play with it might be fun or horribly outclassed by competitive whatevers.

The raw value is pretty good. The utility is terrible. Not only is that a really weird collection of stuff (1 Tactical squad?) but there are way too many of a lot of the models. You really don't need 4 Land Raiders and 8 Speeders or Dreads is also overkill.

It might be worth buying it, keeping the bits you want and reselling some of the extras. Land Raiders and Storm Talons should fetch a good price, for example.

I already have like 10 tactical and 5 assault squads so I don't need any more troops. I removed those from the package because I wanted to cut down on price and I didn't need it.

If you're willing to take the time and individually ebay off the pieces and parts you don't want, you coudl easily get your money back. But remember, time is money, and it would not be instant. Figure out what you'd want to run in nromal games, and then piece out the rest and take nice pictures, see what it goes for on ebay.

if you're just goin to keep it...I'd give it a miss.

If you have the money to keep out until you sell the extras then go for it.

I'm probably going to buy just cause I'm expanding my dark angels chapter and I want enough for ravenwing and another company. I currently have a full battle company and I'm gonna get another.

I would definitely say "heck yeah" if you got the cash and it's not going to cause problems with any other expenses you have!

Especially if you have ambitions like me where even if it is just for shelf-use you would like to see your collection reach an entire SM chapter

I picked up 5 Rhinos on ebay for $50 (pretty good price) but then I had to buy all the turrets, bits and pieces and such to be able to transform those rhinos into whatever tank I wanted for that game session. That ended up really raising the price on those tanks.

I lack predators right now (like 0) so I really need those. Also lack flyers as I only have a nephilim and a Xiphon, so I really want it right now lol.

If it's mostly unpainted you can turn around and sell off the unpainted stuff you don't want to use at 50% GW price and make back some of your money. If that time investment is worth it to you then it's a fantastic deal.

In summary, no. Rhino scale tanks? That sounds like proxies so if you want to play in a GW store or tourney they become redundant.

For that amount of cash I would just put together a small force from new and add to it over a staggered period of time as budget works for you.

He mentioned that by rhino-sized tanks, he meant various tanks that use the rhino chassis (predator, whirlwind, vindicator, etc.)

I wouldn't buy it. There are better deals to be had on ebay.

If I were to try to get all that on ebay, I'd be looking at almost a grand just in the 14 tanks, 8 dreads, 8 speeders and 4 land raiders.

Definitely worth the price

Hmmm, ambiguous. If they are Rhinos, Predators, etc., then pretty good value. I still wouldn't buy it though as I enjoy putting the kits together.

I too enjoy putting my own kits together as well. Getting the pose just the way I want, equipping how I want, etc.

But since my income was limited and I had to take what I could get, I found it's almost just as much fun to referb and convert models to get them to my liking as well.

Appreciate that sentiment. I think it is just a personal choice of mine, if I am going to buy it it has to be new. Even if that means I get it two or three months later than I would like.
