Hi, I have this list in mind for a maelstrom tournament.

Special rules are "no named characters" - so no Guilliman, Mortarion, Magnus etc.. and sadly no Gazzy :(

I have in mind the following list:

Battalion +3cp

HQ
Warboss w/ Big Choppa and Shoota and Attack Squig w/Legendary Fighter 64pts
Warboss w/ Big Choppa and Shoota and Attack Squig 64pts

Troops
27 Ork Shoota Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 162pts
27 Ork Shoota Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 162pts
28 Ork Shoota Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 168pts

Elite
Painboy w/ Power Klaw 65pts

Battalion +3cp

HQ
Weirdboy w/ Warpath 62pts
Weirdboy w/ Warpath 62pts

Troops
28 Ork Shoota Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 168pts
28 Ork Shoota Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 168pts
28 Ork Shoota Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 168pts

Supreme Command Detachment +1cp

HQ
Weirdboy w/ Da Jump 62pts
Weirdboy w/ Da Jump 62pts
Weirdboy w/ Ead Banger 62pts

Total=1499pts

How would you improve this list? My gameplan is to just play for objectives after all, I just need my mass of bodies to mob the board.
There is 2.5 hours per round, I reckon I can weather the storm if I get my weirdboys within smite range of any problems.
I feel like the 10 command points will serve me well if I get gak objective cards.

Looking forward to your advice,

Cheers

The weirdboy spam is going to be useful, are you planning on having them all within the painboy's range? Also I may consider 1 or 2 of them to be slugga/choppa boys. that way they can advance toward the enemy and it's something else that can switch focus off units. EX having to focus on the choppas coming at you for a charge vs having all shootas and it not mattering who is attacked. Not necessarily important but something to think about, since the choppas damage output is generally higher especially if they hit the enemy at 20+ models.

Yeah, i was just thinking about using the shootas to thin down screens before the charges happen.

However with eldar getting -2 or more to hit recently maybe getting choppas and using their scary melee to zone control people off objectives would be better.

It's three rounds, 2.5 hours each. The way they'll determine the winner from the people with 3 wins is whoever got more maelstrom VP. My win conditions are to just spam objectives and bring enough boys to not get tabled.

The weirdboys I will use to threaten T8+, tough invulnerable savez as well as to focus down any stormravens if they get too close (good I fething hate those things).

The painboy is there to top up the overcharged weird boys

The warbosses are there to give advance+assault

Finally the boys are there to do the heavy lifting. They'll shield my characters, overcharge the weirdboys, capture points and be scary in melee.

Flinging one of the squads forward with da jump turn 1 will let me get a good hold of objectives and board space with my main force.

Its such a pain having to play around a kff bubble and i don't think it would be worth it. at best you can fit maybe two squads of 30 boys under the bubble and it would save you approximately 20 boys. Thats almost the price you pay for the kff in the first place.. not sure if that headache is worth it.

So yeah my list is built to just threaten people off their objectives. I could shave off 5 boyz here and there for 10 grots to cap in my backfield maybe. (id really want to advance forward with as many boyz as I can, so this might be a wise choice.)

Maybe a min kommando squad would be better as theyd appear anywhere on the board for me.

I don't know!

EDIT:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here's the second version of the list I have in mind:

Battalion +3cp

HQ
Warboss w/ Big Choppa and Shoota and Attack Squig w/Legendary Fighter 64pts
Warboss w/ Big Choppa and Shoota and Attack Squig 64pts

Troops
27 Ork Choppa Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 162pts
27 Ork Choppa Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 162pts
28 Ork Choppa Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 168pts

Elite
Painboy w/ Power Klaw 65pts
5 Kommandos (2 w/ burnas) 45 pts

Battalion +3cp

HQ
Weirdboy w/ Warpath 62pts
Weirdboy w/ Warpath 62pts

Troops
28 Ork Choppa Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 168pts
28 Ork Choppa Boyz (Nob w/ shoota included) 168pts
11 Grots 30pts

Elite
5 Kommandos (2 w/ burnas) 45 pts
5 Kommandos (2 w/ burnas) 45 pts

Supreme Command Detachment +1cp

HQ
Weirdboy w/ Da Jump 62pts
Weirdboy w/ Da Jump 62pts
Weirdboy w/ Ead Banger 62pts

This one has less boys, but with the bonus of being much more flexible. The first turn da jump with kommando assistance should be able to tie up things more reliably. Grots for backfield objective capping too.

Which list would you be more worried to face?

I just got back into this game for 8th ed, and made a 1500pt Brigade detachment with my marines that I was comparing to your list. Gotta say, the scariest thing on it are the weirdboyz with Da Jump. If I read that right you have two guys that can just teleport a whole unit to within 9" of one of my units, and this is pretty upsetting as once they close I feel a bit overwhelmed. Orkz are cool, if I wasn't using Marines I'd be a greenskin for sure. Good luck with your list.

Thanks! Tourney won't be until a month from now, I need that sort of time frame to paint all my army up. I have maybe 10 boys painted at this point, so boy am I going to be busy..

I'll post my results here when the time comes

Can i ask why you would go with shoota and not the melee boys?

The idea of shootas was to combat the problem that screens pose to melee. Shootas are good against low toughness screens, and I could focus down a screening unit with several shoota boyz units to open up charges.

Sluggaloo, the weirdboyz with duplicate powers won't be able to cast the same power in the same turn except smite. Maybe your tourney doesnt use matched play rules but no Da Jump twice, nor WarPath twice. Just trying to save you some frustrations in-game.

I know man, I just saw your post in your other thread. The reason Im bringing that many weirdboyz is because theyre one of our more reliable ways to deal with T8+ units (with smitespam).

I am currently running a split of 4 choppa squads, 2 shoota squads. I play ITC style mostly so the shootas get jumped to an objective i need and can take pot shots at stuff in range. They are also good vs Tau and the like for getting first blood/first strike after a jump. I have only 3 weirdboy in my list and think 5 or 6 is the magic number.

Some players like to teleport shootaboyz because if they fail the charge at least they could do some damage in the shooting phase. And also because if you want to run 150-180 boyz you'll be probably forced to include your shoota boyz since not everyone owns that many slugga & choppa boyz.

Welp tourney was today and I went 3-0! Really pleased as it was the first tournament I've ever been to. Didn't place as high as I'd hoped in the standings due to not all of my models being painted. Also I never got past turn 4, which hurt the amount of points I could rack up. Everything performed well, though the painboy felt a little lackluster, though that was mostly my fault for forgetting to use his aura and dok's tools....

MVPs go to the weirdboyz, as they oneshot anything they looked at. But the boyz made all of that possible, none of my enemies could handle the sheer amount of T4 bodies I threw their way, and they butchered everything in CC too.

GG!

Good job man. If I played green Tide i'd probably do a list like this myself.

Hmm thing that concerns me is grots seem to be an easy way to give up first blood. I do really want to try big meks with kff though!
