It has come to my attention that I've been reading Lord Zhufor's stat line super wrong(good thing I haven't used him in a game). His ability that affects "Skulltakers" units has me looking for the actual unit. They are a renamed berzerker in lore(which I read almost none of). My next thought is, how do I get Skulltakers in an actual game? There's no specific model nor stat for them. I had the idea of making a standard list, but instead of choosing Legion <World Eaters> as I normally do, I would choose <Skulltakers> which is a Renegade legion, that would give me the Dark Raider ability. Again, please excuse my ignorance. I'm still re-learning the game at a technical level like I had in 4th ed.

FW have yet to expand on what the Skulltakers are.l officially
For now, I would treat them as a renegade faction.
You don't get bezerkers as troops which is annoying, but it's alright.

Most sane opponents would have no trouble with you running skulltakers as a world eaters warband.

Unfortunatly gw forgot to.add the same 'successor chapter' line (that lets you count things like crimson fists as imperial fists) to the legion traits. Warbands (which have some forgeworld character) like the purge or the faithless or the skulltakers are by raw, renegade legions instead of thier obvoius cult legion. Fw went and faqed in that they ALSO have thier parent legion keyword, but didt really address how it works with their abilities like skulltakers aura (which only affects skulltakers)

So what you're saying is that in friendly game I should be able to run a standard WE list. But otherwise run a renegade legion as Skulltakers.

But is that really RAW? Is it written that Skulltakers or the Purge or the Faithless count as using Renegade rules?

The way I read the entry on PG 157 of the codex basically states if your legion doesn't have a dedicated ability such as the WE butcher's nails, then you you can use the renegade legion ability. It even names the Red Corsair as an example.

^ Yeah, that. It just lumps anyone that isn't a founding legion into Renegades, despite some warbands clearly being splinters of founding legions.

RAW with the FAQ, basically The Faithless and The Skulltakers are Renagades, but both Zhufor and Arkos gain World Eaters and Alpha Legion benefits, respectively I think. It's a frickin mess.

Yeah, definitely a mess. Like they spent 5 frantic minutes writing stuff like that and kicked it to the printers.

You'd think they'd at least include Khorne Berzerkers, not even WE but zerks....

Honestly the team was probably rushed super hard.

Can you please post what FW tells you? I really want to run the Faithless, but I don't know how to go about it. Lord Arkos profile is amazing though.

As soon as I get a response. I'm gonna send the email again hopefully they aren't ignoring me.

I emailed FW on this very same thing a month or so ago and they told me they couldn't answer me directly as they were still taking questions for an overall FAQ, and that this was passed on to the rules team.

Not really helpful and I'm hoping the same response won't occur here.

I hope so too, I want to be dropping down a S10 W8 Terminator Lord (I'm making Zhufor my Warlord in this list and giving him Unholy Fortitude, hence the 8 wounds) surrounded by Combi Melta Termies in my opponent's back line.

And then him having to worry about 30 Zerkers in Rhinos coming at him from the other flank.

The fact Forgeworld is preparing a FAQ is the real shocker here.

Some of these will be the Skulltakers (along with The Tainted for those Nurgle fans out there). This will allow people to use characters like Lord Zhufor to their full effect. "
