This came out of nowhere, a brand new Horus Heresy VR game has just been announced. I've never been fully sold on VR, does anyone else feel the same way? The game looks interesting though, I look forward to playing it and see how it all works.

A turn-based strategy game in VR? I don't see the point.

I wonder when GW will stop whoring out the IP to the lowest bidder?

It's unfortunate that Warhammer games are synonymous with shovelware.

The game is probably just gonna be a reskin of this another game that the company has made. Kind of like what Warhammer 40K: Storm of Vengeance was for the company that made Ninja Cat vs Samurai Dogs.

Ah, I see.

Too bad that 5 minute video was just the same 1-minute video on a 5x loop. Can't tell anything about the game from that.

So, I was initially interesting… The watched the trailer and… yeah….

For me, it just doesn’t look or feel “real” enough. It’s all very cartoony and gives the impression of being basic.

No idea how it’ll work in VR though, or, how, based on the clip of the 2 marines fighting will work as a “turn based strategy” game.

I’d love a proper turn based strategy game that allowed the full use of everything in the HH, but, if it’s just going to be an Ultramarine vs Word Bearers I’ll prob just skip (like I did with the Wolves vs Orks game).

Will have to re-watch it later (no sound right now) to get more impressions from Valrak.

GW need to start to realise, that they can’t go out and do things like the Total War series, then just jump into another game that’s not even going to be half the product.

Their site's last update was a year ago... that is kind of a red flag to my eyes. That and combining with VR.

I wonder if VR hardware developers are handing out investment money to small-time developers to get games exclusive or at least developed for VR.

Because I've seen a few smaller indi-companies suddenly turn around and shift their normal game into a VR Experience even before the game is finished. Generally its met with a very poor reception as all the existing niche market is kicked out when the VR requirement comes in; and as the games are half-baked indie that doesn't help their cause to add in a feature that does nothing for gameplay.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Shocker, another 40k game that looks like utter garbage.

The last good one was Space Marine in 2011. (Albeit it had some issues but over all, fantastic).

Please, either find a company that will make a second game like that or just stop with the trash.

I was just about to post the same. It seems like the wrong genre to incorporate that tech ideally. Can it? Sure! But I don't think it adds anything to the experience and risks making them less money if the game can't be played normally on a screen without an expensive VR rig. I hope they're not stupid enough to lockout the much larger non-VR crowd...

If there's not much competition from other VR-RTS games it may well make sense (especially if it's basically a reskin of an existing game)

you could make a bunch of sales to those who have invested in VR early and don't have a huge variety of stuff to choose from (especially of the longer game types)

and it gets you flagged up as a VR developer, useful if you suspect the future is VR

Not much competition frequently also is an indicator of low or no demand. There isn't much competition for sriracha flavored non-dairy "milk" but that doesn't mean there is a lucrative untapped demand. From the look of the title (and from frankly the general history of the majority of previously unheard of GW licensed games from small devs), it looks like a typical cheap low budget throwaway game that will go heavy on mobile style microtransactions (like the snotling one, the ork one, the HH one, the SW one, the Deathwatch one, etc) and *NOT* a successful flagship title like DOW/Vermintide/TW or even an unsuccessful potential flagship one like the failed mmo or the deathwing one. For that to target the ultraniche (and ultraexpensive) VR market seems paradoxical to me. YMMV.

Total War Warhammer is shovelware? We may need to re-define the term shovelware then.

For every TW Warhammer quality game, there are mutliple Snotling Fling quality ones.

I wouldn't really compare a 1$ game with a 60$ one.. Typically I judge based on what they are asking for then determine if it's shovelware based on that price.

I think the worst one's are the one's that actually show promise but miss the mark by either a little or a lot, because they could've been so good.

Its a VR game. It can't have a functional enough interface to be exciting.

It adds a sense of scale and the ability to survey the situation way faster than panning around the map. A gak game is still gak though.

I'm not aware that the Independent Characters were involved in developing VR games.

They did an interview with these people and they had to delay the podcast because this announcement was delayed. And I just checked and yeah, this was the reason why.

I actually own a VR arcade, so I will definitely check this out when I can. It doesn't look promising in itself, but VR gaming has ruined 2d gaming for me in general.

Got sent an early version of the game to play and show off, please be aware that everything you see is in the early stages of development and anything can change. Let's jump in and take a look at this new Warhammer Game.
