Anyone know why Guilliman, in Dark Imperium, refers to the Primaris Marines as "Cawl's blasphemous hordes?"

Space Marines are the direct work of the emperor and thus considered holy by the Ecclisarchy. Cawl, a partial heretic himself to both the Ecclisarchy and his own OmniMessiah cult, direct mucked about with the emperor's work and claimed to improve it.

Without Gulliman, he would have been shoved out an airlock as soon as anyone found out. As it is, theres a chance an inquisitor will cap him when Ultramarine Jesus isn't looking

Because Cawl made a lot of them, and they are blasphemous from the perspective of the Imperium prior to Guilliman's return and legitimization of them.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

I had figured it was because Cawl had ostensibly 'improved' them over the Emperor's original design, which is worrisome where the Custodes were intended to hunt and kill Astartes, amongst other things.

Because even though Guilliman understands Cawl's value and irreplacability, he is still being creeped out by the fether.

On thing intreasting I found in the emperor's legion was Primaris Marines where mentioend off handedly as simply new marines wearing "a type of armor and equipment I had never seen before" and this was by the chancellor of the Imperium, So it's possiable that outside of the nqusition, marine chapters and high ranks of the military (and of those 2 of the 3 are solidly behind Gulliman) people can't really tell the differance between a Primaris Marine and a standard Marine,

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I took that line as kind of tongue in cheek. Like, before his return, there was no way the Imperium would've done anything of the sort, that gak is 100% blasphemous. And heretical.

Per "the emperor's legion" Custodes, among their myrid other duties, where intended to be able to defeat a space marine legion should it be required.

Wait, I thought in the original Gathering Storm materials it said Cawl made the Primaris on Guilliman's orders prior to Guilliman's near death. Why would Guilliman think they're blasphemous?

From what I gather, Cawl went further with his project than Guilliman expected, including mucking about with traitor geneseed and the like.
So yeah, Guilliman ordered him to make better marines and better equipment, it's just he's not happy with the result.

Ah, I gotcha. That makes more sense. Thanks!
