Dream Pod 9 just launched our second Kickstarter for Heavy Gear Blitz to make plastic miniatures for the core Peace River, NuCoal & Utopia faction models for our Heavy Gear Blitz! - Tabletop Wargame. Our initial goal is to raise $50,000 needed to make two plastic injection molds for the 8 core models of the Peace River and NuCoal faction Armies. Mini Stretch Goals after that will add extra parts to the sprues like running legs, extra arms, and extra weapons. Larger Main Stretch Goals will make more plastic injections molds possible and Unlock the core Utopia Army models and additional models for all three factions.
We believe that being an early supporter should be encouraged so we are setting our reward levels so that the early Heavy Gear Commander Level Backers, which is a great package for two players starting out in the game, will get their rewards shipped out in the first wave. Sign up early to lock in your shipping order and watch as stretch goals bolster your forces! We also have some Faction Army Set Pledge Levels for Backers just wanting miniatures from one of the factions. All models from the Heavy Gear Commander Set and unlocked models will also be available at a special price for this Kickstarter to all backers as add-ons rewards for an extra pledge.
Here is a link to go check it out and show your support.

Awesome, I've been looking forward to this Kickstarter. You guys did pretty well on the previous one.
I would suggest (if you're not planning to already) putting up some kind of list or map of the stretch goals though, I think it really drives pledges when people can look forward to something extra.

Already pledged for this one. I've done their first Heavy Gear KS and the KS for their space/mecha game Jovian Chronicles. I was very happy with the campaign and the miniatures for both.

As I recall it's 1:144 scale (google tells me that's roughly 12mm scale)

They got $30k in a week. Makes me think they'll relaunch with a 30k goal in a month or so.

Huh, strange that backers didn't get an email about this. I thought KS usually notifies backers directly when a project is cancelled.

IIRC, this is the second KS they cancelled before it ended. Kind of makes them look bad. I think most people agreed that December was a bad time to run a KS , but they were determined to do it.
Hopefully, after the holidays they will redo the KS, and perhaps rethink the initial offerings and add ons.

Yeesh, what a mess. I'm really happy that I got a KS#1 pledge off ebay for pretty cheap right after it delivered. I had opted in for KS#2 since I figured I wouldn't get so lucky again, anybody going in for the 2nd round KS already knows the score and I doubt many pledges will hit ebay this time around, sucks that it didn't go off.
But that was for NuCoal and Peace River. I have ZERO interest in Utopia and I'm flabbergasted that they want to do utopia as the basis for a KS with NC & PR as stretch goals. That failed utterly with KS#2 and they're setting KS#3 up for failure again. Thankfully they seam to be listening to people in that thread, but it doesn't fill me with any confidence that they wanted to go the Utopia as base route

This new one is just for the Utopia faction, rather than the three factions they squeezed in last time. I think they also structured the KS better this time, as getting a usable force does not depend on breaking multiple stretch goals. The stretch goals just get you more of the figures already in the basic pledges.

The structure of the KS is certainly better. The choice matter is... well, Utopia is the least popular faction and they're asking 30k$ CAD, on a 16-days campaign. It could happen... but it is a stretch.

How was the quality of the figures from the previous plastic campaign?
I haven't seen any in person, but I'm a sucker for plastic mecha kits.

IMHO, quite poor with the exception of the Caprice one, which were on par with the metal ones.
For example: these are the old, metal southern minis, painted by Infinity's painter (from left to right: Black Mamba, Jäger, Iguana, Spitting Cobra):
These, OTOH, are the same vehicles, in their plastic versions, painted by a friend and old HG fan:
Jägers
Black Mambas
Iguanas
Spitting Cobras
(You might notice that the minis' legs are kind of "stiff": that's because the legs are a single piece that fits right below the armored skirts, and I mean below, not really inside).
And this is what he thought about the KS minis:

That's a bit misleading. "Here's the awesome ones (do try to ignore the fact that they were painted by world famous minis painter extraordinaire Angel Giraldez), and you can clearly see they look better than these ones speed-painted by my friend. Ignore the vast difference in paint quality (even though I'm specifically choosing paintjobs that highlight the best aspects of the metals and the worst aspect of the plastics), yes, ignore that part and trust me they're bad models"
The models are NOT as bad as people make them out to be, at all. It's true that they are not as well detailed as the metals, for sure. but they also retail for half the price and the metals are still available if you so desire. The plastics assemble well, have easy to clean mold lines and have decent enough detail that they take washes and highlights without much additional work. The poses are indeed a bit stiff and some of the edges are softer than the metals, but not so much you can't use washes and drybrushing instead of careful layering. A truly great painter would be able to get a similar end result as the metals if he really put in the effort.
One thing I never see mentioned is just how much damned EASIER it is to assemble them compared to the metals, and how much sturdier they are once assembled. many of the DP9 metals take a LOT of cleaning and are rather fragile once assembled unless you pin every damned join. For that alone I'd give up any increase in detail. I dropped a couple while painting and had nothing break or scratch. They need a stronger plastic glue if you use plastic cement, but Plastruct Bondene has been my go-to glue for years on plastic kits and I had no issues at all.
So if you plan on painting them to a showcase standard and leaving them in a display case, get the metals. If you actually want to game with them, I can't recommend the plastics enough, far superior end result for the moderate loss in detail/posing
I painted a 100 point force for all 4 of the original factions in plastic
I don't think I'll go in for this KS because I don't really like the Utopia models, not in metal and probably not in plastic. I would have gone in for Nucoal or eace River (especially PR)

I thought most of the plastic gears looked pretty good if you just looked at the new miniatures. Much of the criticism of the new plastic figures came down to them not being absolutely perfect duplicates of the old metal figures. "The head's too small" "The shoulder pads are too big" "The gun isn't long enough".
I can understand that for long time players, who might have already had the old miniatures in their collection, this was an issue. For new players, I don't think it bothered them a much.
YMMV.

I believe I did say exactly as much in my post, did I not? I also have posted three different posts about the same speed painter talking about the actual quality of the moulds and the plastic sprues, which he actually took pics of and you can see.
He speed painted them because he wasn't enjoying painting them. Otherwise, well... he paints like this:
But OK, fair's fair. Let's see some other metal and plastic southern minis painted by someone else instead of Angel Giraldez and Tyler Provick, and let's do the same again:
Jäger (Metal)
Jäger (Plastic):
Black Mamba (Metal):
Black Mamba (Plastic):
Iguana (Metal):
Iguana (plastic):
Spitting Cobra (Metal):
Spitting Cobra (plastic):
Or hey, what the hell, these are DP9's promotion pics of the plastic minis:
Also, this one I painted myself:

Yeah, hopefully current DP9 will have learned from their past errors on mould production and this time around they will be better. I'm not really keen on Utopia stuff, but I know some people is.
