So if I have a Nob with Waaaaagh! Banner following my open-topped grotswagen around, do the gretchin inside the grotswagen get +1 on their shooting rolls? Clearly if he's also embarked they don't, but if he's on the ground hiding behind the wagon?

What is a grotswagen? I assume a battlewagon with Gretchin embarked?

In any case, if you are talking about a unit that is embarked on a transport, they do not benefit. "Embarked units cannot normally do anything or be affected in any way whilst they are embarked. Unless specifically stated, abilities that affect other units within a certain range have no effect whilst the unit that has the ability is embarked."

The banner does not "specifically state" that it affects them.

But all of this is a moot point because a Waaagh banner only affects to hit rolls in the fight phase, not shooting.

Cardiff

The sentence before the embarked aura prohibition covers it:

Embarked units cannot normally do anything or be affected in any way whilst they are embarked.

Highlighted for emphasis.

Does the battlewagon's open-topped rule count as "specifically stated"?

"When they do so, any of the restrictions or modifiers that apply to this model also apply to it's passengers;"

Re: Fight phase -- doh! Guess that puts the kaibotch on that idea .

No, it doesn't. The statement has to be on the banners rule.
