I've been wondering about an interesting and unusual colour scheme for my orks. Mostly purple, with a bit of white here and there. Probably some black/ grey as well. How do you guys think this would look?

I think you should do a trial model. You never know how it will really look otherwise.

the colours sound like they could work quite well if done right...bonus points if you intend to play them all sneaky-like, preferably with lots of kommandos

...are those colours just for the armour/clothes/gear?...or were you thinking of giving them purple skin or something too?

All good orks know purple is the sneakiest of colors.

Look to the tmnt. Purple and green works fine

Perhaps use a bright yellow green. Yellow with green wash on it.

Do it. Orks are the punk rock aesthetic of Warhammer. The more colors the better on them. My favorite unit of boyz I’ve done are pink.
