Subject: [500] - Nids - Escalation league (New army)
Reaching out to the experienced Nids players out there!
So, we decided to start an escalation league to kick start 2018. I've opted for a new army. Need a new painting project and no one near by plays nids, so...
Anyway.
I'm looking for some feedback on my 500pts as it stands.
I like the look of list 2. Honestly I would drop the Flyrant to run a Prime to boost the warriors though. +1 makes them essentially BS 3+. Also I would take the Jormungandr Warlord Trait so that enemies don't receive cover from your Warriors guns. It should free up about 80 points as well, so you can add something. Biovores are nice and cheap, or you could add a Neurothrope for some psychic defense. Catalyst on the Venomthropes can let them shield warriors longer since they are going to be drawing a ton of fire until they are gone anyways.

Lots of bodies, but nothing really good at killing.
Considering Im playing against atleast 5 MEQ armies out of 5 means I'll pretty much sit on the objectives to win.
I like the idea of dropping the Flyrant. But it then means EVERYTHING will hit the venomthropes,
Where as, dropping him in their face with -1 + Catalyst means he wont die at 500 pts but he could take out bigger targets.

At the 500 point mark Venoms are really hard to take out. You can expect them to survive well into turn 3 if he uses only efficent fire on it, or turn 2 if he turns every gun on them, even what shouldn't target that profile.
Venoms are deceptively though, just to put things into perspective, it requires more than the fire of a manticore for each venom. I don't think you will face 3 manticores at 500.

Since I'll only have a few units. Ie, venoms, 2x warriors, rippers + Flyrant.
We gain points in the league for every VP we win by.
So I'll also be trying to grab objectives.
So... likely only 1 squad of warriors will have the buff the entire game. Unless they need to split for objectives.
But if they focus fire my venomthropes. It means my Flyrant is flying free and doing things.
Alternatively, I could swap out the Venoms for something else. Eg, 2 Biovores, ravagers, find a few points for a mawloc?
Now it might be "that guy" behaviour... but 3 x flyrants is a detachment in its own right... and a bloody terrifying one at that... 4 command points and 3 big flying nasties in your face... at 500pts there's not an army built for 500pts that can dish out that kind of hurt in the first turn/2?
just a thought in case you REALLY want to win

I would run a Genestealer Cult detachment for your 1st game. Due to them being able to use Astra Militarium Detachment for every GSC detachment you have AND you can also run a Tyranids Detachment with your GSC/AM.
Imagine 3 Tank Commanders, Biovores and Purestrain Genestealers in the one list?
This would be a great 500pt game if you went with GSC;
