Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

Hey all, I'm revisiting my ultramarines for the first time since drop pods were nerfed into oblivion.
I'm going for a sort of armored assault vibe. I sort of just whipped it together last second before a game vs blood angels, where it performed well. I'm curious to see if there is any way I can improve it.
My standard setup is a predator castle with the Lieutenant and Captain re-rolls, and popping Killshot stratagem turn 1, meaning my tanks are hitting on 3s and 2s rerolling 1s, and then wounding on 2's against almost anything rerolling 1's.
The Dreds add more ranged firepower, and act in a counter assault role vs dropped units.
Tac marines act as a anti-deep strike screen with the scouts, using the fallback ability from marines to leave assault and then continue shooting.

The Sternguard I'd deploy far from the castle to take deep field objectives, with deep strike termy support.

Interested in feedback. No bobby g.

My main question is that with the 3 predators do you find you also need the dreadnought lascannon and plasma cannon? I feel you are going to suffer against any sort of horde.

One day I'll put something funny here.

I would consider either dropping the dreads for some guys who can kill a lot of guys on the ground quickly, or switching up what they are armed with as your team wants to stay back.

Dreads perhaps with twin las/twin auto?

This then frees you up to muck about with the Hellblasters to turn them into something more deadly (another 5 sternguard with combi weapons?)

I almost think 5 combi flamer 5 combi melta could work, especially if the razorback could be loaned to them or become a drop pod to put pressure on - the 5 combi flamers would ruin someone's backline and the combi meltas mean that you can really hammer a big model or unit quickly..

Just a thought - it changes your list up but you may find some more

And I agree. Think in those cases, swapping the dreds to assault cannons is a good start, and then swapping the non-chronus sponsors to heavy bolters may help.

Against a full horde I think I'd have some issues, certainly. The only list I've run this vs was blood angels, but it did have the firepower to drop a landraider and a drednaught turn 1, so it works vs the intended audience. Thoughts to make it better vs hordes?

To put it in context, my 2000 point ork list contains about 180 shoota Boyz in 6 mobs of 30. They will be on you, by the latest, turn 2 and I will pretty much ignore your predators, or anything touting lascannons and plasma.
How would you go about defending against, slowing down, or taking down that weight of numbers?

To be fair you are right, this list would absolutely suffer vs orks. Esp in those numbers. But I think it so far, works vs meq and vehicles.

To counter hordes if both players know what army is coming down the pipeline, I'd swap both drednaughts to assault cannons, all predators to autocannons and heavy bolters, swap plasma for stormbolters and flamers, and add more assault fodder as speed bumps to keep me shooting. But again, not an ideal scenario.
