I'm confused about the point values in Index: Xenos for Necron. Warriors cost 12, but Immortals cost 8. As far as I can tell, Immortals are just straight up better than Warriors. What am I missing here?

Ah, got it. 8th edition bamboozled me. Haven't played since 5th.

They are 12 and 17 points respectively. A more reasonable cost would be 10 and 14.

Yeah I agree - same for space marines too. 11 for tacs and 15 for intersessors would make them competitive choices. Elites infantry need to cost less.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

The OP does have a point, though. The base Immortals model is sufficiently superior to have a higher base cost. The guns that an Immortal has access to are superior as well, so both the Model price and Weapons price should both be higher.

I get that the net price is higher, but it comes across as an extremely odd dichotomy when it requires the Weapon to make the better model cost more than the "horde" model of the army.

It's written that way because necron warriors are the only unit that can take a gauss flayer. However the immortals gauss blaster and tesla carbine can be on several platforms.

In cases of wargear that can only go on a single unit, they merge the wargears price into the base model to make it a bit easier to add up.

It is a bass-ackwards system that is confusing. That is the OP's point.

And that's why we have PL. Since point cost is no longer an easy mechanic like it used to be, it was replaced by one that is even easier. Point cost now is only for the kind of games that actually care about list building as much as they care about the match itself.
