The Warp

Been having a good look at the new daemons book this morning. I feel it lacks a bit of the combo variety of old really, but with a huge (mostly tzeentch) daemon army I want to try make some of it work. No doubt this is probably not the way to go, but getting started with it.

Mono Tzeentch 1875 pts

Battalion

HQ1: Kairos Fateweaver
HQ2: Changecaster,staff of change
Troops 1: 25 Pink Horrors, daemonic Icon
Troops 2: 10 Brimstone horrors
Troops 3 10 Brimstone horrors

Outrider Detachment

HQ 3: Fluxmaster, staff of change
FA 1: 4 screamers
FA 2: 4 screamers
FA 3: 4 screamers

Vanguard Detachment

HQ 4: Daemon Prince of Tzeentch, Impossible Robe, x 2 malefic talons
Elite 1: 4 flamers
Elite 2: 4 flamers
Elite 3: 4 flamers
Elite 4: Exalted flamer
Elite 5 Exalted flamer

1875 pts
8 + D3 CP's.

Plan is, the on-foot herald (changemaster?) walks with the big blob of Pinks, making their shooting attacks S4 Assault 3 (because of the size of the squad) and hopefully casting Flickering Fire to increase it to S5. The flamers and exalted flamers also accompany the changemaster to boost their attacks, which I hope to do a fair amount of damage with. Brimstones to suck and live behind walls for objective grabbing.

Whilst this big phalanx closes on opponent across the table, the squads of screamers with the fluxmaster and daemon prince move quickly to assault monsters and tanks with S7 lamphrey's bites due to the fluxmaster's presence. GOnna try use The daemon prince to get stuck into anything tasty if and when the opportunity knocks. Use Boon of Change from the fluxmaster on screamers or prince as and when required. Kairos to plug some holes, hold up morale and do some magic. plus the nice boost to stratagems.

Honestly I like all of this, just popping in to remind you that flickering flames doesn't add +1s, it adds +1 to your wound rolls- much better. Your pinks/flamers are great options for this, allowing them to put out a load of shots capable of bringing down anything on a 5+ at worst. In most situations I'd say you're more likely to want to cast that than boon of change.

You would be better served with two more princes than Kairos every high strength weapon will be shooting at him because you can pick him out

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've found Fateweaver surprisingly more useful than I thought he'd be, however I feel that a LOC with the Impossible Onesie and utilising the 3++ stratagem with the reducing damage warlord trait is a good psychic bartering ran with durability.

Tzeentch prince spam is also something I'm considering. A phalanx of princes screened by screamers could make a nasty offensive force. The big blob of pinks is really really good I've found. With buffs they kick out a crazy amount of shots at decent strength.

Out of curiosity, what surprising uses has Kairos shown? it seems for his points (and the LoC to a lesser extent), you might as well grab magnus

Don't forget a Fluxmaster with the Flamers makes THEIR shooting better as well. Sending one with them will do well also.

I'd much rather have a Skullmaster with Khorne Dogs than Screamers. Think about making your Outrider Detachment Khorne. They're marginally faster, although less survivable, and hit pretty hard supported by a Khorne Prince also.

Thanks Greywolf. Currently I'm gonna stick to mono Tzeentch, as that's the majority of my collection.

And yeah, been keeping my flamers near my changemaster for the strength bonus. I find they are a great counter attacking unit.

I agree that a small detachment of Khorne is useful. I'm thinking of doing a bit of a bloodletter or crusher bomb, Patrol detachment. The Crimson crown on a bloodmaster with a squad of 20+ bloodletters is going to do some damage utilising Denizens of the Warp. Further down the line though, I need to keep exploring the glory of tzeentch.

I like the idea for going down the the LoC with robe and possibly warlord trait. the prince doesn't really need the robe he's good on his own, and really likes boon otf change as every one of the upgrades do good things for the daemon prince.

Like magnus karios jsut eats to much fire and kinda falls. Even more so if your opponentas realize they can jsut shoot bolters at the thing to down him in short fashion. Magnus as recommended above has the same problem. While the LoC just has so much staying power and doesn't require you to go first to really feel the effects of having the thing in your list

1850 daemons

(battalion)
HQ1: Lord of Change , with Rod of Sorcery, Staff of Tzeentch, and The Impossible Robe [WARLORD. TRAIT = INCORPOREAL FORM]
HQ2: Fluxmaster
Troops 1: 10 Brimstone Horrors
Troops 2: 10 Brimstone Horrors
Troops 3: 28 Pink Horros, Icon of Chaos,

DETACHMENT TOTAL = 690

(vanguard)
HQ 3: Changemaster, Staff of Change
Elite 1: Exalted Flamer
Elite 2: Exalted Flamer
Elite 3: Exalted Flamer
Elite 4: 3 Flamers
Elite 5: 3 Flamers
Elite 6: 3 Flamers

DETACHMENT TOTAL = 605

(spearhead)
HQ 4: Daemon Prince of Tzeentch with wings, pair of malefic talons
Fast Attack 1: 4 Screamers
Fast Attack 2: 4 Screamers
Fast Attack 3: 4 Screamers

DETACHMENT TOTAL = 552

ARMY TOTAL = 1847
8 COMMAND POINTS

After a couple of games and re-evaluating where and when to go for certain attacks, I feel this force is slightly more flexible and useful ( i realise its also 1850 instead of the 1875 posted but my next game is 1850) as the LOC is able to be used more aggresively than Kairos due to being fairly hard to take down with the 3++ and incorporeal form. I realise screamers are not everyone's cup of tea but my opponents have been hating their mobility and their hard hitting potential, even with the chance that you wiff your attacks at WS 4+. Still though, a butload of +1 strength lamphrey's bites plus boon of chaos on the screamers is not to be whiffed at. At any rate, with the LOC, Prince, fluxmaster and screamers coming at the opponent, the phalanx of horrors, flamers, exalted and changemaster is a solid and durable firebase.

Happy to hear any thoughts on improving mono-tzeentch craziness.

One thing that I was thinking for tzeentch was big blobs of horrors, deep striking in front of enemy and denying their movement with splitting horrors into blue and brimstones.

My 2500 force for game against Death Guard tomorrow:

Tzeentch Battalion:

Hq2: Prince of Tzeentch, wings, talons
Hq3: Changemaster, staff of change
Troops 1: 25 Pink Horrors, Icon
Troops 2: 10 Brimstones
Troops 3: 10 Brimstones
Fast Attack 1: 9 Screamers
Fast Attack 2: 6 Screamers

Tzeentch Vanguard
Hq4: Fluxmaster, staff of change
Hq5: Lord of Change, Rod of sorcery, The Impossible Robe. [WARLORD], trait = Incorporeal Form
Elite 1: 3 flamers
Elite 2: 3 flamers
Elite 3: 3 flamers
Elite 4: exalted flamer
Elite 5: exalted flamer
Elite 6: exalted flamer

Nurgle Patrol
Hq6: poxbringer
Hq7: Spoilpox Scrivener
Troops 4: 30 plaguebearers, Icon, Instrument

2494 pts.

Plan is deep strike the Nurgle stuff, use the Plague Banner stratagem, cast Virulent Blessing on the plaguebearers and they’ll be doing a butload of damage on 6’s. They provide harassment until the Screamers can hit the opponent’s lines, then the buffed horrors and flamers/exalted flamers shooting does it’s stuff. LOC is there to be a bullet magnet that is more survivable than initially appears, whilst princes provide some muscle.
