Subject: Quick Question - Space Marine Reivers charging with Grapnel Launchers

Hi all,
Is it reasonable to assume that Reivers equipped with Grapnel Launchers ignore vertical distances when charging? Therefore being able to deploy more than 9" away from an enemy at the top of a building, but still being able to possibly pull off a charge by ignoring the vertical distance.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can do exactly that.

RAW, it comes down to whether you'd include charging as "moving". Some would argue that moving =/= charging, and therefore does not come into play during charge phase.
HIWPI, I would treat it like a model with <FLY> keyword during charge phase to maintain our sanity.

Charging is moving. The rules are explicitly clear on that.

Thanks for the replies! I'm playing in a Kill-Team tournament and just wanted to make sure I didn't mis-interpret the rules.

Unless I'm missing something, distance is measured base-to-base right?
So if a unit was on a 4" tall building/ruin you wouldn't measure >9" from the base of the building/ruin, but from the base of the closest model(s) and your own models after "landing".
Thus if you ignore vertical distance when moving/charging you'd actually need less than 9 to reach them. (With the number changing based on just how tall the building is)

Right. So if your enemy is on top ofa building 4" high, and you are diagonally 5" away, your charge distance would be 3" for units that ignore vertical distances.

Yes. They are the only unit in the game that ignores vertical distance.
