I wanted to add some different models to my Space Wolves and I quite like the idea of the Wulfen (or at least I like certain things about the Wulfen). I like the idea of marines going feral and hulking out, and I like some of the dynamism of the model poses, but I'm less keen on a few things:

1) Going full werewolf is a bit too wolfy for me (I know - heresy for a Space Wolves painter, right?)
2) The silly werewolf legs...
3) Some of the more outlandish hairstyles
4) The cost of the models

Given the kit has so many spare parts I thought it might be fun to try some conversions though. With that in mind I bought a box of Wulfen and box of Primaris Reivers to see what I could come up with. I chose the reivers because the models are a little more athletic than the normal primaris marines but the increased scale seems more suited to the wulfen models.

So I present the results:

By using the two boxes of models, a little greenstuff, a few spare space wolves heads and a couple of pairs of marine/chaos lower legs, I got 14 wulfen with no wolfy wolf legs.

There are 3 types in the group - reiver bodies with wulfen arms/weapons, reiver legs with wulfen bodies and arms/weapons, and wulfen bodies and legs with the wolf parts chopped off and standard marine shins and boot sculpted on.

I've got a few close ups to give you an idea of how I did the conversions.

Spoiler:

Reiver bodies with wulfen arms/weapons
The wulfen arms have hollow shoulders so need building up a bit to attach to a normal marine body. I used sprue off-cuts and plastic cement to get a good sturdy foundation and then greenstuff for the gaps.

Reiver legs with wulfen bodies and arms/weapons
I needed to put greenstuff pelts around the waists to cover a couple of gaps.

Wulfen bodies and legs with the wolf parts chopped off and standard marine shins and boot sculpted on
A bit of carving of the plastic here and more greenstuffing to fill the gaps. I carved out the plastic on the kneepads to make a longer shin which fits the scale better.

Most of them are missing backpacks and shoulder pads at the moment and they are just tacked to the bases with superglue for the pictures. I'll take them off the bases and paint them and the backpacks separate. I gave some of the more crazy heads a haircut to make it look less like they just pushed their fingers into a plug socket.

Anyway, I thought they came out ok so I thought I would share what is possible. Now I just have to paint them and work out what I will do with 14 wulfen...

Thanks for the encouragement.

I would say 'go for it' Mathius. I reckon they look better, are more intimidating than the original models and they're cheaper (per model). £35 for 5 wulfen and £35 for 10 reivers (so 14 for the price of 10 of the original wulfen).

I like them a lot. Very cool looking and better than the offical models.

These are great! They remind me of the original "13th company conversions", but a bit bigger and cooler. Good work!

I'm not the quickest painter...

The first 5 are done and I've posted them to the P&M showcase:

The other 9 have the armour base colours done but now need the flesh and the details painting. Pretty happy with how they are coming out though.

Nice - the painted ones really help tell the story. If I'm reading it right, the ones in Reaver armour are in the earlier stages of transformation and still pretty handy with the usual weapons, while the frost claw ones come across as completely gone

Wow, these look great.

Do you think a similar conversion could be done with Wolfen and Sigmarines?

That's right - they're all far enough gone that they've had to be removed from the general populace but some are further along the transformation than others. The weapons are mixed through the different stages to be honest. Partly it was just what fitted well as I was piecing the conversions together (ie finding the right place to put the monopose wulfen arms). I like the idea of them reverting to claws as they get more feral through.

I don't see why not but I thought the Sigmarines generally had heavier armour and more static poses. I liked the Reivers because they have light armour (e.g. a single big shoulder pad) and more dynamic poses. Are Sigmarines available pretty cheap then? If so they would definitely be worth a look.

Ah, maybe the Sigmarines would look a bit too static.

I was just looking at your conversions and thinking I would love a Fantasy version of them.

You totally nailed it.
These harkens back to the OG metal models fro back in the day.
you sort of deserve a medal imo

I've got nothing against the wolfiness of the official models, I love the appearance but those fragile ankles drive me up the wall.
These are the perfect model.
Terminators have the bulk over a normal Space Marine to imply the transformation but are too well armoured to look wild.
I can't wait to wolf out some Reivers.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

My buddy got bits and used them as shoulder pads. Look great IMO.
