Hi! I've been collection for a little while now, and I tried a demo-game in a store, plus some Heralds of Ruin.
But now, me and a friend has tried to teach ourselves 8th edition for real, and I have some questions about the rules.

1: Fight Phase
I remember being told in the store, that when one player attacks in the fight phase, the other player can retaliate with the attacked units. Meaning that both players kinda share the Fight Phase, in terms of both being able to attack. Even though it's on the first players turn.
I can't seem to find this in the rules though. Is it just untrue, or maybe from 7th edition?

2: Partial Cover
Let's say I have a 10 model unit shooting at an enemny unit of 10 models. 5 are behind a wall and I have no line of sight, 3 is in cover to the waist, and 2 are out in the open.
I understand, that the attacker technically resolves each attack per attacking model, and that quick-dice (or what it's called) is just a "shortcut" to acheive this. But the model targets an entire unit right?

So how does this work, when targeting the unit I mentioned? Can I kill the entire enemy unit (even those behind the wall)? How does the enemy allocate wounds? Can I only target the visible models of the unit? And What Saves can the unit use?

3: Shoot all weapons
I can shoot all weapons now? cool.
So a 10 man intercessor squad can in a Shooting Phase, shoot 10x bolt-rifle, 10xpistols and 1x grenade?

Also, can they use the pistols, during the shooting phase, if they are locked in close combat, or is that instead of using a melee weapon in the fight phase?

4: Charge through cover or walls?
Again, in the store. The shop-guy told me that Terminators could charge/move through walls and cover, do to their hulking size. Again, I can't find any rules mentioning it.

5: Assault Squad without jetpack?
I have a soft spot for inf. with chainswords. So in my new DA army, I was thinking about making an Assasult Squad, without Jetpacks. just boots on the ground, with the tools of angry landsscapers.
Is this a viable option, regarding the Points (Power-level or what ever) saved in not upgrading them? Or are they just useless?

1. This is true. Read thought the fight phase rules carefully, it uses alternating activation.

2. Choose targets is done at the same time. Only weapons in range at the time of selecting can fire (But if they go out if range after firing some weapons, it doesn't matter)
Cover is determined per model IIRC, but a lot of cover only works if the whole unit is in it. Enemy picks whichever model they want (even out of sight ones)

3. You can shoot all weapons, but pistols and grenades have limitations. Read these.

4. Yes, tho some terrain has a movement modifier for charging across it (And barricades have special rules)

5. Leave tactics for tactics thread.

1. All correct. All the units that charged get to fight first, and then it started with alternating activation of units in combat starting with the player whose turn it is.

2. In your example you would be able to kill the entire unit. So long as you can see at least one model in an enemy unit, you can attack that unit and wounds can be allocated to any model in the unit. As for saves, a unit only gets the bonus of cover if every single model in the unit is in cover, so in your example the enemy unit would use their normal saved. However, since the shots are technically supposed to be resolved individually and the defending player gets to choose which models get the wounds allocated to them, they can simply choose to let all the models outside cover die first. That means every remaining model is in cover, and they will get the +1 armour for being in cover against the rest of the shots.

3. Pistols and grenades have rules that say you have to give up shooting with any other weapon in order to fire them. So while models can fire with all their weapons, pistols and grenades are specifically exempt from this. All other weapons can still be fired en masse though, so your vehicles can fire all their weapons, or if a model is equipped with more than one gun (like an eldar autarch) they can fire them both.

4. The ruins section in the advanced rules is the section you're looking for. It states that infantry can move freely through ruins.

5. Assault units generally need a "delivery system" to get them into combat. If you don't want to use jump packs then consider using another method. Transports, drop pods, any alternative deployment stratagem should all work fine. How effective that is compared to the usual jump troops, I'll leave to space marine players to decide.

My Dark Angel Assault Squad is next to useless with Jump packs. Guys on foot would just walk toward their inevitable death. If avoid if I were you.
