Feeling like a new scratchbuild project, decided to build a land raider for my upcoming dark angels army. What weapons/gear are you guys liking? How are you guys currently setting up you Land Raider for 8th edition games?

I'm setting it up on the shelf. No seriously land raiders are not wroth it. They are over costed and just a massive loot pinata that gets blasted off turn one then your boys gotta foot slog it.

If you do take one, just take the base land raider.

To many unpainted models to count.

Land Raiders are okay. They pay a lot for the 2+ save, which isn't worth so much against most heavy AT weapons.

They're not amazing, but for normal play, you could do worse than bring a LR. I'd bring the basic variant, personally, as the firepower isn't bad, though it's, to reiterate, overcosted.

I also think it looks coolest.

Land Raiders are pretty durable, but are very expensive.

I don't think they're worth it purely as a gunboat. You'd be much better off taking 3 Razorbacks or something like that if you just want heavy weapons. Especially when it is so easy for many units to keep your Land Raider engaged in melee all game so they never get to shoot properly (I had issues with Helldrakes doing just this to me recently!). As such I think you need to be utilising the transport capacity to make them worthwhile.

Dark Angels specifically have some great buff abilities you can stack if you want to deliver a melee bomb to your opponent. The 10 slots in a regular raider can feel a little restrictive, so I think the Crusader is the way to go.

A possible contingent could be:

5x Deathwing Knights
Asmodai
Librarian (with Mindworm/Aversion)
Deathwing Ancient
2x Company Champion

This is a ton of points, and this sort of tactic won't cut it in a tournament game (but that's Land Raiders in general!). But in casual games it can be pretty hilarious!

They are marginal. If you bring one, it should always be a crusader. But as long as terminators come with free teleport ability, the landraider will feel without purpose.

I say the standard loadout is optimal, as the firepower it brings is substantial.

It doesn’t really matter which option you pick, just make 100% sure you also bring along a Darkshroud to keep it alive.
