Would a warband like this be reasonable? Im not talking full blown word bearers levels of worship but more like they acknowledge the gods and their existance? I know in storm of iron those iron warriors certainly worshipped chaos but i was under the impression they are in the minority?
Also if so how feasable do you think it is that instead of living on medregard they have their own daemon world but are still part of the legion? I do intend to have them view themselves aa a chapter as a mockery and insult to the loyalists.

The legion no longer exists, it's just warbands with a mixture of loyalties, and not all live on Medregard. The idea is fine fluffwise; they might still pay fealty to Perturabo, although why they would after escaping his proximity I don't know.

They have Daemon Princes, why would they not embrace Chaos at some level?

There are no traitor legions who strictly don't worship chaos. There are plenty of chaos worshipping IW, there are plenty of chaos worshipping night lords, etc.

Iron warriors are one of the few chaos legions that are still a “legion” with word bearers and death guard, black legion too technically.

Yeah. Petarbo kinda quiet but in theory with ernough effort. They could be reformed as a slightly less united and more pm factions legion.
Merrigrad. The chaos Lords who lead each grand company, could in theory be brought to order by Petarbo himself.
Word bearers still have a high command.

Lesser Daemon of Chaos

To me IW's always felt utilitarian. Chaos can give them powers, but they are less keen on embracing it because it can controll them and cause mutations - which they are not to keen on ("flesh is weak"). You don't need to pray to chaos like some religious person that keeps doing rituals of praying and stuff to talk to the powers or try to bargain from them. Chaos is manipulative and speaks to a persons instincts and desires (hunger for power, pleasure and excess, strength etc), which is why people get tempted and get drawn into chaos just by doing what they always do.
Giving into their desires and instincts can make them more powerfull/energetic or get even more satisfaction from what they do - if they dont balance this they risk getting more and more corrupted by chaos itself, resulting in ever increasing physical mutation and loss of mental controll. If they dont watch it they can lose total controll over themself and become play things of chaos (e.g. chaos spawns...)
So IW use it as a tool, but more or less keep it at arms length. Of course not all behave the same, and it's noted in the fluff how some IW's give into their blood lust during assaults, who are then drawn to khorne. Some fully embracing this start to become more and more the khorne beserker type of variety.

Storm of iron sums that up well.
They use chaos. But they know chaos can come and go on a whim and cost you or hand you victory. The deamons can be broken by a waning warpstoem.
They prefer to reply on good old fashioned heavy artillery and so. Not that they embrace chaos, they are chaos marine. They just have a different relationship to it than say, Word bearers.
Flesh, steel and shells are reliable. Chaos forces and warp spawn are not.

Black Legion isn't even a Space Marine Legion, technically. It's a large, mongrel Warband more similar to the Red Corsairs.
All of the Primarchs have the ability to rally their Legion if need be - Look at the Thousand Sons. The Legions that won't operate as Legions are arguably the Sons of Horus and the Alpha Legion (see Sons of the Hydra). Fulgrim would easily rally the Emperor's Children, Angron led close to 90,000 World Eaters in an invasion of the Imperium, and Decimus might be able to bring a large percentage of the Night Lords to heel. The Alpha Legion might assemble at Legion strength if Alpharius or Omegon is still around and came out of hiding.

I've always viewed Iron Warriors as worshippers of Chaos Undivided. They're still Chaos Marines at the end of the day, they're just on the more pragmatic side in their forms of worship. Nurgle in terms of Obliterator virus and other chemical weapons of war, Tzeentch in terms of Warpsmith/Warpcraft and creating daemon engines, Khorne in terms of berserk brutality storming breaches and general martial prowess... the only God I can't see them finding much practical use of is Slaanesh. Maybe the pride and perfection they seek in their drills, marches, and siegecraft?

That seems more technical and calculated. I'd say Tzeentch would have a play in seeing the many strataygies and potential defender reactions and responses.

Iron Warriors would very likely [i]bargain[/] with a wide variety of daemons, like you've mentioned. Essentially being mercenaries. They'd be less a source of champions than a source of soldiers, I suppose. Tho some of them adopting a kind of spirituality certainly isn't out of the question.

some did. in Storm of Iron, one captain is seen to be alot more Kronite than the others.
Where was the young, and first captain are more pargamatic about the whole thing, one being more driven to use them as tools, the second is alot more jaded and regards them as unreliable. His seige plans are very muvh reliant on things like explosives and artillary than deamons and magic.

In Storm of Iron there was a portion of the Warsmith's grand company that followed Khorne. They were looked down on by the other dudes in the company for being craven, but they definitely exist.
