Question for and lizzardmen and dwarf players, Been playing a few games with a buddie now as Dwarfs. Were playing 7th edition, everything seems to be going fine except when his Carnasour on Old Blood gets into CC with any of my troops seem to just rip through everything with his Attacks for his carnasour then his old blood then followed by his thunderstomp each turn. With his Strength 7 it gives me a -4 to my armor saves, and he has a 2+ armour save for his beast as well. Haha so looking for some advice, are we rolling for the Lizzardmen wrong or are the dwarfs just to weak to be able to stop it without cannons?

on the forum. Obviously

No, sounds about right. Carnosaurs are pretty dangerous.
You pretty much need to either kill it at range (its a monster, so it can't hide in a unit. At least not in a lizardmen army) or charge it and try to kill it before it can charge you.
It should only be T5, so miners should be wounding it on 4s. Carnosaurs aren't that tough. Lethal, but fragile.

Also, this is the wrong subforum. You want the Warhammer Fantasy Battle Legacy Discussion subforum

Agreed, Thunderers and cannons would make short work of a Carnosaur.

We must have been rolling wrong against then. So the Old one had a 2+ armour save, where the carnasour had a 4+, are you able to target Calvary separate when they are mounted? If so if it was killed would we just go on and continue as a old blood unit, or would there be a panic test or something. Thanks for the help new to Fantasy haha we seem to be mixing 8th and 7th quite often and its messing things up.

For monstrous cav I think you can choose who to hit in CC, but with ranged you randomize. I forgot the specifics, but monstrous cavalry + character rules are a bit different from standard cavalry rules.
Killing the rider would cause a monster reaction test. Killing the mount does nothing to the old blood other than him losing his pet t-rex, iirc.

For Dwarfs, cannons, crossbows and handguns are your friends. If you aren't taking them, you are fighting with one arm behind your back.

Best chance is some unkillable Dwarf Lord, or pray for a charge. (good luck getting that off in 7th)

Carnisaurs are super easy to kill. Shouldn't be that much of a problem.

You go through the "to hit" portion of the shooting, then successful hits are randomized on a D6, 1-4 on the monstrous mount, and 5-6 on the rider. Is it possible you'd kill the Oldblood off the top? Possible, but not probable. However, if you spam enough shots in, eventually you'll kill the Carnosaur as most of the hits on average will be allocated onto it.

Even cannons and handguns? That doesn't sound right.
A cannon should have a -6 armor mod, which means no 2+ save.
Likewise, handguns should mod a 2+ save to a 4+, and crossbows to a 3+.

Yeah, in WHFB strength modifies armor, so anything that's high strength is your friend.
Ward saves are not affected by strength, but I'm pretty sure lizards don't get 2+ ward saves. If they did I would have always taken it.

Iiirc, dwarf infantry can take great weapons. That might help. You'll always hit last (7th ed, right? No striking first on the charge then), but you will get to reduce his armor due to the higher strength stat. You'll also be wounding on at least 4+

I could have sworn that chargers still struck first in 7th, and it wasn't initiative based on the charge yet.

Also, the Slann could get a 2+ ward bubble, I thought, but it didn't block everything, and became a 4+ in HTH. Will check when I get home.

Huh, oops. Crossed editions again. It is indeed 7th that allows you to strike first, and 8th gives +1 combat res. So yeah, charging a carnosaur with a unit of miners or Great Weapon Longbeards is a good idea in 7th.
I do vaguely recall Slaan getting 2+ ward saves against shooting and magic, but they were the exception. No other unit can have that.
