To be hardcore raw, can we mix daemons and csm according to FAQ? The faction keyword in the daemon codex is “allegiance” in the csm book “mark of chaos”. Sure the options are predetermined but are allegiance Khorne identical to mark: Khorne (as per faq simply naming two things the same isn’t enough, they must share chapter, legion, Forgeworld whatever)? The reason I’m asking is that the faq text critiques the daemon/csm mix and guard/space marine mix and then makes the latter illegal. Is non spawning daemons for csm still an option?

Intent?
Imperial Guardsmen and Space Marines should be able to ght side-by-side, and in a Chaos army Chaos Space Marines should be able to burn the galaxy alongside their daemonic minions. The rules for what units could be included in each Detachment were therefore very relaxed, but this has since led to some very ‘mixed’ Detachments that include units from far more Factions than we originally envisioned

From designers commentary:

If I can choose a keyword for a
unit, such as <Regiment> for Astra Militarum, could I choose that keyword to be, for example ‘Blood Angels’ or ‘Death Guard’?
A: No.
In the example above, ‘Blood Angels’ is a Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes and ‘Death Guard’ is a Legion of the Heretic Astartes – neither of which are Regiments of the Astra Militarum.
Q: If I create an Astra Militarum Regiment of my own and name them,
for example, the ‘Emperor’s Finest’, and I then also create an Adeptus Astartes Chapter of my own choosing, and also call them the ‘Emperor’s Finest’, do the abilities that work on the <Regiment> and/or <Chapter> keywords now work on both the Astra Militarum and Adeptus Astartes units?
A: No.
The intent of naming Regiments, Chapters, etc. of your own creation is to personalise your collections and not to enable players to circumvent the restrictions on what abilities affect what units. It is also not intended to circumvent the restrictions on which units are able to be included in the same Detachment.

Those examples aren't really relevant here .

Khorne, is the same word as Khorne. Unless there is any guidance otherwise I'm going to assume they are treated as identical.

1) It's a beta rule, feel free to ignore it.

2) You are correct, you can't mix CSM with Daemons anymore unless they all have the same <MARK OF CHAOS> and <ALLEGIANCE> keyword.

So, you can't take Chaos Space Marines with the SLAANESH keyword as their <MARK OF CHAOS> with Bloodletters (who have KHORNE as their <ALLEGANCE> ) but you can mix Chaos Space Marines with the KHORNE keyword as their <MARK OF CHAOS> with Bloodletters (who have KHORNE as their <ALLEGANCE> ) because KHORNE is a faction keyword for both.

Which is appropriately fluffy and I like it.
It should be rare that Slaanesh anything works with Khorne, aside from a full scale Daemonic incursion. Since Daemons all share a Keyword, that is possible.

And remember, you can still take a Daemon detachment and a CSM detachment in the same army. <Chaos> can still be used as a way to "link" detachments together, it is just within those detachments that needs an additional shared Keyword other than <Chaos>

Yes, you can but, the disadvantages of losing Locus and Legion Traits outweigh any real benefit for doing so IMO.
