with the change to first turn deep striking, I've got to adjust my plans with my scions a bit. I figure I'll have more units start on the board but beef up the size of them so they can weather first turn firing better. I'm thinking deploying some in taurox primes and using actual transportation may be a thing to do. Hide the scions in a taurox behind something to limit shooting on the furst turn and more or less set up for an alpha strike on the 2nd turn when deep strikers can land anywhere.

Battalion Detachment (+5 CP)

( 39 ) Commissar - power sword, plasma pistol, warlord, blade of conquest, grand strategist
( 45 ) Tempestor Prime - command rod
( 45 ) Tempestor Prime - command rod

( 78 ) Scions - x5 - 2 plasma guns, plasma pistol
( 78 ) Scions - x5 - 2 plasma guns, plasma pistol
( 128 ) Scions - x10 - 4 hot shot volley guns, plasma pistol
( 128 ) Scions - x10 - 4 hot shot volley guns, plasma pistol

( 88 ) Scion Command Squad - x4 - 4 plasma guns

( 136 ) Taurox Prime - battle cannon, autocannons, heavy stubber
( 116 ) Taurox Prime - gatling, hot shot volley guns, storm bolter
( 116 ) Taurox Prime - gatling, hot shot volley guns, storm bolter

total - 997

battle plan: volley guns go in the gatling tauroxes, hide somewhere then rush forward to get within 24" turn two. Command Squad and a prime drop somewhere turn two, along with the plasma scions. The commissar is just here for fun, probably taking a ride with a taurox.

I could change the 2 plasma guns to volley guns and remove a plasma pistol to change one scion plasma to a second command plasma, I'm just not sure if it will work out better than the two separate squads. Plus I'll lose out on two plasma pistol shots, which may or may not make a difference. I'm really not sure of my battle plan anymore. The damage and distraction of scions deep striking was kind of central to my idea originally so I'm trying to figure out how to get to turn two safely and without losing large chunks of my fire power in the first turn. Thoughts? Suggestions?

The commissar got cheaper with the FAQ, he's just 15 points without gear now Lord commissar is cheaper as well

What Coffee said, also I'd suggest putting in your effort to getting another command squad, though it's a suicide run, dropping down two command squads, a prime, and two take aim orders (and perhaps bring laurels so you might be able to double order) will murder the crap out of a lot of things you want dead. They will die, but they'll eat up shots because people needs to -make sure- they're dead, and they'll do lots of damage on their way out.

Also I'd consider running a naked Scion squad, people will in general discount them, to target more primary targets, and if you get them in close with frfsrf it can be devastating. Also the Grenadier command (ten krak grenades into a transport or a group of elites) may not be the top tournament move, but it's just fun.

My general thought would be to replace the Taurox Prime with the regular ones to save on points, and then just try and fit more Scions in, I mean replacing the Primes alone would save almost 100 points which could go to more boots on the ground, or special weapons or large squads.

I've fought in this endless hateful war for eight months now, night and day. In that time I've aged a decade. My hair has turned grey, nearly all my squad have died, and I doubt I'll ever smile again. I've fought next to heroes and strangled men in their sleep. Why would you ever replace Taurox Primes? They're amazing.

Oh, that commissar is a lord commissar. I actually forgot there's the elite one lol. I've honestly never considered a commissar with my tempestus until the lord became 30 points (so cheaper than a tempestor prime) and the limit of 2 per datasheet at 1000 points. I'd like to use him as a surprise for someone who doesn't expect a little roughhousing.

I was kinda worried about putting a lot of points into deep striking now that they're stuck in my zone until turn 2. I figure I could get them into rapid fire range well enough by using the tauroxes as transports instead of only as mobile shooty boots. at 12-24 inches i can still get one plasma shot per gun, which could cause a bit of damage. With the tauroxes movement, i could rapid fire at targets 26 inches around it. that's quite a bit of range, i think. I'm kind of wondering how well that would work.

As for getting rid of the tauroxx primes, i think they'll be central to my plans for this army from now on. Besides, can I actually take regular tauroxes as dedicated transports for militarum tempestus? I thought they had the regiment keyword but not militarum tempestus so I couldn't take them. Did I get that wrong?

Well you could take other transports, but you would lose the regiment bonus.
