I've got a puzzle for you all, because I'm currently 5 - 0 in 8th edition vs my friends Nids and have to admit I need some outside assistance.

I have a 30k Dark Angels army that I am proxy-ing for 40k, I've got lots of infantry and Cataphractii/Tartaros terminators, which means I've been mostly using greenwing with the occasional Deathwing squad. I also have no Primaris, and currently no vehicles (I'm playing 'accurate' 30k on a 40k budget... so I've been staying away from FW Resin vehicles and hoping for an eventual plastic vehicle release).

So now you know how badly I've shot myself in the foot when playing 40k. My question is, what tactics could I use with greenwing/deathwing to try and counter Nid armies? My opponent usually has at least 3-4 psykers, and smite spam is brutal. Previous to the FAQ he would turn 1 'deepstrike' a lot of big things to my front door (he almost always finished setting up first, and gets the first turn).

Am I pretty much screwed until I get some 30k vehicles/bikes?

So I mean, what stratgems have you been utilizing? I know Weapons From the Dark Age is an immensely popular strat.. And on that note, plasma weaponry. Are you utilizing these? What are your key units?

Are you using drop pods or anything, or are you foot slogging everything where they need to be?

It's likely his roster will change as well with the FAQ/Beta rules as a data slate can only be used 3 times (outside of troops) and of course the deep strike beta rules. If you're getting rekt by spam smite, make sure you've got psykers in range for denial. If you've got a way to incorporate any sort of FNP as well, that may help.

I've been using weapons of the dark age pretty much every game on a squad of plasma cannon devs, I tried using a Deathwing assault with Cataphractii terminators to take out one of his psykers, but that damn neurothrope and his 3++ weathered a total of 40 bolt rounds. His 2nd one survived a drop pod strike with a full tac squad with 2 plasmaguns and a combi-plasma near him.

Besides having at least 3+ psykers per game, he likes to 'deepstrike/burrow' near me with a group of nasty critters (a broodlord with genestealers usually, I think a Nids stratagem lets him to that, but now on turn 2 instead of turn 1 thankfully).

A General roster of what I have:
- Master in Cataphractii
- Chaplain
- Librarian
- Lieutenant

100 infantry total
- 10 plasmacannons
- 5 lascannons
- 6 missile launchers
- 5 volkite (can proxy for what I need, I suppose)
- 5 rotor cannons (only for the rule of cool, assault/heavy bolters I suppose)
- 5+ Heavy Bolters
- A good variety of all special weapons, and the rest boltgun marines

- 2 Contemptor dreadnoughts

- 4 Drop pods

- 10 Cataphractii terminators
- 13 Tartaros terminators

- 5 assault marines w/ 2 flamers

Does he have a typical list full of large creatures? If so, you've got the heavy weapons to vaporise him. If his list changes wildly every game, then you have the same problem that I have. The nid player in my group has a huge collection and is unpredictable.
