This is fundamentally a list building question, which is why I’ve posted it under tactics.

I’m starting a Salamanders army. Currently, it has only two MSU tactical squads, sniper scouts, and two lieutenants. I’m thinking of taking advantage of forgeworld’s Dreadnoughts deal and adding one or two of dreads. The four that interest me are: Bray’arth Ashmantle, Leviathan, Deredeo, and relic contemptor. Which should I add to a Salamanders force? And which weapons should I give them?

I’m trying to work out which fits best with the chapter tactics. Since it only gives a reroll of a single hit or wound roll, per unit, I’m not sure that a heavily dakkadakka dread makes sense. That said, I think a cyclonic melta leviathan is pretty fluffy. With Vulkan backing it, it should be viscous too! OTOH, 1d4chan seems to suggest that the grav flux bombard is the best choice for hordes and the storm cannon array is also really strong.

Overall, I’m thinking that either cyclonic melta + siege claw or grav + siege claw is the way to go.

There is something that seems really fun about playing a dual c-beam cannon relic contemptor. I know that it won’t be the most reliable, but it looks like it would be really fun to play.

That said, a dual CC contemptor might be a pretty potent CC dread.

I like the aesthetics of the deredeo dread, but I can’t see the Salamanders tactics really benefiting anything other than the dual las build.

Well, unless there is a compelling reason not to get Bray’Arth and a leviathan, I think that is what I’ll do.

Then, the question is what arms to put on the leviathan. I’m currently thinking siege claw and grav-flux bombard. It’s not as fluffy as the cyclonic melta, but the grav flux bombard seems to be more multi-purpose than either the storm cannon or the melta.

The Stormcannon is probably the best gun for the points since the Grav Bombard got a price increase. 5 autocannons for 50 points isn't a bad deal, and then you get them at BS2+.

Yeah, the storm cannon looks pretty reliable. Running the numbers, it seems like it's better than the others vs. infantry unless you're dealing with blobs of 20 or more GEQ, 15 or more MEQ, or 10 or more TEQ, where the Grav Flux Bombard takes over. Given that two of those are pretty rare in a meta that emphasises MSU for CPs, the storm cannon looks like the best option vs. infantry.
