I really like dreads and im thinking of making a list with the legion of dreads sitting on my shelf.
But i don't see how to make it efficient:
.most are too slow to capture objective
.get tarpitted too easily
.penalty for moving and shooting
.expensive for amount of anti horde firepower
.very fragile vs smite spam and mortal wound generating cc units.

SO has anyone got examples of dread lists that are not hopeless: what chapter(s), what type, how did you use them, what mandatory support did you need to add?
My dreads want to be de-dusted, please think of the poor dreads

Bits box, I ain't got no bits box...I have a bits room...

Well, I've seen a few lists that would be pretty solid. Are you just talking about the basic washing machines, or the Forgeworld ones as well?

I've seen dreadnought-heavy Blood Angels lists working pretty well (focusing mostly on Librarian dreadnoughts, fragioso dreads popping out of Stormraven assault ships backed up by death company), now there's talk that Deathwatch is pretty nice for dreads. ultramarines seem pretty good for Venerable or Contemptor dreads, since they're bs2+ they dont get totally screwed by falling back and shooting if they get tarpitted.

Id think you'd definitely run them with an anti-screen force of scouts, captains and lieutenants to use rerolls, etc.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Great topic! I've got 13 dreadnoughts for my Blood Angels. And I'd like to run them all in all single fun-list.

Librarian-Dread
Three Furiosos

Librarian-Dread
Four normal Dreads for long-range-firepower

FW-Chaplain-Dread
One normal Dreads
Two Deathcompany-Dreads

Lucky me, we play with a lot of LOS-blocking terrain. So advancing ist an option. But I guess they'll still die on their way anyway... :(

Fluff for the fluff-gods!

Deathwatch allied with Space Wolves or Blood Angels.
This will grant you placement in the Deathwatch strategems and options from the BA or SW.

So Blood Angels or Wolves provide you with HQ and warlord options in Libby Dreads or Grandpa Bjorn and are both top of the pile for Dreadnaught options. Deathwatch grants you a strategem to deepstrike a suicide Dread without the somewhat useless Forgeworld Drop-Pod.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Honestly mostly just make sure you have enough machine guns to counter infantry, and have a dread or two set aside for long range tank busting.

I’ve been finding I increasingly don’t even bother bringing BS3+ dreads unless I want a cheap quad bolter mortis to finish off my list though.

Sucky heavy weaponry penalties.
You'd think something as slow as a Dread would get to negate that penalty.
