It had always been a mystery to whether or not Dorn actually died on the Sword of Sacrilege but now the lore seems to show that he is in fact dead, what new lore is it in?

there isn't any new lore that I know of\. we know his hand was recovered from a chaos ship, which strongly hints at his death, and in a HH novel Conrad Cruze referances of a vision of Dorn's death, getting dragged down by a hoard of enemies within a ship that sure sounds like what happened to him. but it's still possiable he's not really dead, but the evidance strongly points to it.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

If you follow comic book logic, then no - losing a hand is an injury a Primarch could survive, and we haven't seen the (rest of the) body..

If you're not following comic book logic, then it's a solid maybe, but still unconfirmed either way.

I’d say yes, otherwise where did he go?

He was on an enemy ship that they recovered his hand from, did he just jump on a shuttle and disappear? Did the chaos forces capture him? Etc.

Him surviving would raise more questions than can be adequately answered.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

He's not dead, GW have shown they don't much care about the state a Primarch was left in after the HH, they'll find a way to bring them back (even if that involves bringing back a dead alien God and then having the followers of this God ally with a fanatically religious, xenophobic Empire).

But the forces of Chaos shouldn't worry too much about his return, after all, he is 'armless.

Clone him from his hands. Instead of Primaris the Imperial Fists will form a Legion of Mini Dorns.

I collect nearly every faction, so even though my soul belongs to Khorne I still have fondness for my enemy scum.

Back in first edition time he was dead, the IF even had his body.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I was going to say this. The old lore stated that his body was recovered and interred, and that only his hand was kept separate as a holy relic of the chapter.

Yeah but back in 2nd edition the inquisition existed when the Emperor was alive, so I doubt we can rely on those glorious times lol

Also think it was Alejandro de arqebus that said about it too, from inquisition war trilogy, something that is not canon anymore and hasn’t been for a very long time.

Yeah very little of the old lore is still relevant, only really the most general stuff is still relevant like the Horus Heresy, the Crusade etc. Few of the details are still relevant.

In War of the Beast book series IF chapter master Koorland was so awesome that Vulkan said to him that he will tell Dorn (about Koorland's awesomeness). That was M32 so unless Vulkan was just trolling it definitely cannot be excluded that Dorn is still alive.

I mean it's 40k so yeah it's possible, but I always thought his end was extremely fitting. He was too stoic to survive in the grimdark of the post HH Imperium.

Dorn is "presumed dead". Which of course leaves GW enough wiggle room if they ever want to bring him back.

The novel "Ashes of Prospero" hints at possible returns for Johnson, Khan and Corax but not Russ or Dorn. Whether this is deliberate forshadowing or just Gav Thorpe making stuff up for giggles remains to be seen.

Major spoiler for "Praetorian of Dorn"

Spoiler:

When Dorn kills Alpharius, the first blow he lands cuts off his hands. We know the Fists have a penchant for scrimshandering the bones of their dead brothers. Maybe Dorn kept Alphie's hands on him in case he ever wanted to fake his won death. I am probably on a wild goose chase here, it just seems like more than coincidence that Dorn took Alpharius' hands when we know that is the only part of Dorn the Fists recovered.

it may have been intended as almost a foreshadowing of Dorn's fate though.

It might be him having a giggle considering the novel also suggests the notion of female Astartes.
