Platoon commanders are elites so you appear to be short of the 7 HQs required for those detachments.

Ah you're right - I'll drop two infantry squads and the astropath for 3 primaris psykers. Can help with psychic denial and throw some mortal wounds around.

This looks utterly insane, if you ever get around of playing a match with such an army against another choppy army i'd seriously like to hear the news.

Tried to run something similar with R&H with a khorne covenant, albeit i have a question, are Energy swirds worth it?

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Can Guard still take power axes? S5 is a pretty big threshold for melee.

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

Nope regular AM has no acess to Energy axes, unlike R&H

Actually most, including infantry squads, do through the Index.

If this list is intended to be used in any competitive/timed environment I would recommend getting movement trays for the infantry squads. That keeps the count of things you to move individually down to around 60.

That's too bad. I played Vostroya a few years ago and converted most of my sergeants to have power axes.

I sold the army a while ago. Somebody is stuck with some axe dudes haha

Sounds fun. I would certainly like to hear how this works out.

Have you considered the lord commissar? He seems to have better melee stats, and I think it might be worth it.

Also consider include some of the melee relics, they are quite awesome - at least on paper.

One final thing I've been considering: a vostroyan lord commissar in a patrol. Make him warlord with the vostroyan warlord trait for rerolls. Give him the vostroyan relic for OP saves and a powerfist. Keep a priest nearby.

Gak that's right, you get only half your options with only the Codex, my bad.
You get access to energy axes. Should be 5 pts instead of the 4 for energy swords.
At this point i'd wish that GW would actually publish all the rules for free and on their site cohesive for downloads and of course updated......

I like the sound of all the melee characters to be honest - both regular and Lord commissars seem great. I think a balance needs to be struck between characters and infantry though - infantry are generally stronger so it probably makes sense to focus on them. Went for officers first as theyre S4, get orders and also provide a LD buff. Went for psykers second as mortal wounds compliment the horde well and can help deal with targets I can't touch.

The power axe suggestion is great - might need to convert up a batch at some point...

If I used allies, a couple of BA smash captains would work so well with this - they could just go to town with all the CP available!
