Hellhound (1#, 115 Pts) 1 Hellhound Inferno Cannon; Hull Heavy Bolter
Leman Russ Battle Tank (1#, 145 Pts) 1 Leman Russ Battle Tank Battlecannon; Hull Heavy Bolter
Leman Russ Battle Tank (1#, 145 Pts) 1 Leman Russ Battle Tank Battlecannon; Hull Heavy Bolter
Basilisk (1#, 125 Pts) 1 Basilisk Earthshaker Cannon; Hull Heavy Bolter; Indirect Fire Capability
Total Roster Cost: 1795
Normally I would not have the hellhounds in favor of an additional squad in the platoon and both of the command squads with 4x plasma. My question is do you think the 2 hellhounds are worth dropping the infantry squad? Also with the remaining 45 points should I go for leadership and give one of my JO the Hornoficas (sp?) or max one squad out with plasma as a meq roadblock?
Thanks Brave Rifles

Doctrines?
No std bearer in the HQ?
2 Hellhounds & 3 tanks will certainly help keep those chimeras as low priority targets!
Since you have no counter assault I really think you need a HQ with 4 plasmas to deal with assaulters who get too close.

"No std bearer in the HQ?"
being Mech, would it be worth it still?

I am using close order drill and mech doctrines
As for the standard bearer I have never really taken one. I kinda always wanted CC to end as quickly as possible.
Do you think it would be better to concentrate 4 of the plasmas in one squad or split them between both command squads?

I'd like to advocate the standard bearer; if you're in combat and your CHQ is within 12", you should be pulling back out of potential charge range, thus, extending combat is a good idea. Also, it's useful when you have to take 25% casualty checks and the omnipresent dropping fear of the darkness librarian. On a side note, I think that guardsmen should be imune to fear of the darkness, seeing as they are armed with flashlights. About the countercharging CHQs; I'd drop the bassalisk or one of your infantry squads to create a second platoon (one squad from your current platoon and the armored fist squad) and arm both of your PHQs with 4 plasma guns, or 4 melta guns. On the hellhounds: have you ever actually used a pair of these bad boys? One of mech guard's weaknesses is its low numbers, which is quickly remedied by the hellhounds. Never leave home without them.
cheers

I have never actually used a hellhound in a game. I decided to try and add a couple to my list after reading more mech list posts and seeing the trend.
So your thinking something like this

Infantry Platoon (24#, 525 Pts) 0 Infantry Platoon 0 Command Squad 1 Junior Officer CCW; Laspistol 4 Guardsmen Plasma Gun (x4); Chimera 1 Chimera Multi-laser; Hull Heavy Bolter 9 Infantry Squad Close Order Drill; Lasgun (x7); Plasma Gun; Lascannon; Chimera 1 Sergeant Lasgun 1 Chimera Multi-laser; Hull Heavy Bolter 9 Infantry Squad Close Order Drill; Lasgun (x7); Plasma Gun; Lascannon; Chimera 1 Sergeant Lasgun 1 Chimera Multi-laser; Hull Heavy Bolter
Infantry Platoon (24#, 525 Pts) 0 Infantry Platoon 0 Command Squad 1 Junior Officer CCW; Laspistol 4 Guardsmen Plasma Gun (x4); Chimera 1 Chimera Multi-laser; Hull Heavy Bolter 9 Infantry Squad Close Order Drill; Lasgun (x7); Plasma Gun; Lascannon; Chimera 1 Sergeant Lasgun 1 Chimera Multi-laser; Hull Heavy Bolter 9 Infantry Squad Close Order Drill; Lasgun (x7); Plasma Gun; Lascannon; Chimera 1 Sergeant Lasgun 1 Chimera Multi-laser; Hull Heavy Bolter
Hellhound (1#, 115 Pts) 1 Hellhound Inferno Cannon; Hull Heavy Bolter

That's a bucket load of chimeras!
I might be inclined to go Basi/Cameleoline over the Russes. Russes are strong tanks, but Basis can shoot at targets from behind a chimera.

Imo you should mix the storm troopers and basic guard, I say this because storm troopers can take powerfists, and they are what does your killing. The more p fsts you have the better you will do when you end up in combat (and it will happen). All you need to do is win combats by 1 (if you take the 4up save doctrine you will be able to survive most combats) and force a ld check and this is where your numbers will shine (that is if you do it right). Even vs marines and fearless units you will still force them to take saves and by doing that you will ware them out even further. Also wheres the vet squad with 4 plasma guns.....they will earn their points back fast trust me.
