Just want to clear up a couple of queries I have about a list I came up with:

1. A good number of lists contain multiple relics taken from different armies, yet my understanding of the RAW is that you can only take relics from the army which your Warlord belongs to. The strategems I disagree with as well for two reasons:

- The Strategems state you can take "one extra Relic", which implies that you have to have had at least one from that Codex to use it, meaning you're still locked into whatever Codex you took the original Relic from.

- I don't understand how the Strategems override the "If your Warlord is (whatever faction), you can take Relics..." clause of the rule.

2. Imagine I have a model with some sort of CP regeneration rule, such as a CC with Kurov's Aquilla. If I deploy him first, can I then try to regen any CP I then use in the deployment, such as putting units into Deep Strike, or upgrading to a Chapter Master?

The relic section of each codex does not limit your relics to that codex. It gives you a free relic from your warlords faction.
The stratagem works because 0+1 = 1.

And GW has already answered this question. See the Deathguard faq. (I know, its a stupid place)

Q: If my army is led by a Chaos Space Marines Warlord, and
I have a Detachment of Death Guard, can I use the Gifts of
Decay Death Guard Stratagem to include a Relic on a Death
Guard Character?
A: Yes. The only requirement to have access to
Stratagems is that you have a Detachment of the
appropriate Faction. If you have a Death Guard
Detachment, you have access to their Stratagems.

Thanks for the FAQ link. I'm still not 100% convinced on the Codex bit however, as the rule seems to state that a condition must be met (your Warlord being from a particular Codex) before you can take Relics from that Codex.

Codex: Adeptus Custodes, Page 76 wrote:If your army is led by an Adeptus Custodes Warlord , you may give one of the following Relics of Terra to an ADEPTUS CUSTODES CHARACTER in your army.

I'm not sure, it does seem to me that the condition in red has to be achieved for you to take Relics.

The condition must be met to get the free relic. It has no bearing on the use of the stratagem.
