So this is currently happening:

Instead of the Fell...blade(?) tank for my CSM super heavy I decided to build my own Typhon Heavy Siege Tank. Any experiences with it? I'm simply building it because it looks cool. Is it remotely worth the 752 points it now costs? Or was it ever worth the 552 points it originally cost?

Any first hand experiences with it?

I'm interested because I want to rebuild my Iron Warriors and it seems like it would be thematic.

When I gave the rules a quick glance it didn't seem worth the points to me. A lot of the more powerful blast weapons aren't in a very good place right now. However, I haven't thought about it too deeply and I have no personal experience so I'm interested to see what people who know what they're talking about have to say.

I'm maybe halfway through the build now, so there's no going back for me. Even if it's just a piece used in random Apocalypse style settings, etc.

The only things which stick out to me:

+Toughness 9, one of the very few models I've ever seen with it - meaning the vast majority of anti-tank weapons will be wounding on a 5+.
+Can fall back and shoot, and can shoot extra weapons at units in close combat.
+Since it's hellforged it's not actually helpless in close combat like many tanks and can actually eat cheap infantry trying to tie it up.
+Main gun is really potent if in a slightly odd place - much like the Vindicator/Demolisher the gun is actually better at killing tanks than infantry though it would do amazing work against 3-wound units such as Custodes, Ogryns, Wraithguard, etc.
+It's BS of 2+ is shockingly good.

Do I think it can delete an enemy unit each turn? Very likely. It should last a turn or two in some situations. Like you, I wanted something big and silly for thematic purposes. I'm doing up a new Chaos Lord to join my Renegades and he's going to be an artillery master, as I'm building this and three rapiers. Would be really interested to know what peoples' experiences are with it.

It's a pretty boss tank, I'm looking forward to seeing it complete. T9 is VERY nice to have. I was surprised at how useful it was when fielding my mastodon. Lascannons only wounding half the time? Awesome.

Yeah, T9 is the daddy for tanks. I think only 3 weapons that can be fielded in numbers enough to hurt it effectively are Dune crawlers with neutron lasers, demolished cannons or T'au hammerhead railguns.

But, they still need to roll 3+ while all the other usual anti tank guns need 4+ (lascannons) or 5+ (krak missiles, melta, etc.)

Should do well as long as it can keep firing.

Recently interested in Typhon my self. What's the status update? Has it been played? If so how does it perform? I'd also like to see pics of the finished product.

I have not played it...though it is built and finished. I don't play terribly large games and I have yet to convince myself to spend the 700+ points.

This post has the build pictures, and I'll link a few of the finished product below:

I'd say I'm...85% happy with the end result. It's one of those things where a lot of work went into it, and it just looks like a bog standard Land Raider still at a glance, lol.

I will try to find an excuse to field it sometime soon, as I've been aching to try!

One of my favorite tanks, plus as iron warriors the gun shield is made for hazard stripes. In terms of worth the points i dont think it does enough for the basic 700. Only 1 gun with 2d6 shots little light, would like to see it improve to 3d6 like a lot of the baneblade variants did. The flat 3 damage is good, but means you dont get those great swings if it was say d6 damage. With average rolls you’re looking at causing 12 wounds, which will wipe out a medium tank a turn but is ok for the points but not great. It is incredibly hard to hurt though and pretty funny when you start eating people with at at low wounds.

Wow, that turned out very nice! I await results of how it performs.

That looks great. I also have a spare LR but did not want to convert it because I always thought the Typhon was larger than a normal LR.

Did you lengthen and widen the LR?

Nope. The Typhon is a small bit taller and a little wider than a normal Land Raider, but not noticeably so.

This is the best pic I could find. It does show that the Typhon is a little larger, but not a massive difference.

The Spartan chassis, which the Typhon is built on, appears larger because of the extended troop compartment.

Spoiler:

I don't play in tournaments or anything, so I just have to make sure it's a decent approximation within good taste to be able to field it with my buddies. The gun and mantlet add a bit of bulk. If I had gone for the full (and expensive) Typhon style track set from Blood and Skulls it would look better and be much closer in proper size.
