Anyone been watching this? Im about 4 episodes in and really liking it. Well shot, good acting, cool setting (a bit CGI-ish in places though).
Not sure its quite horror as described - more supernatural I think. Its a slowish burner but worth a dip.

I loved the book and I've watched the show twice.

So well made and acted. Wish it was longer though, to explain a few things a bit more.

It is indeed a slow burn horror though. The scene where the man who died in the water the day previous and was slowly drifting towards the repair diver was haunting.

I was hoping this was about the old Jack Nicholson vehicle made in about a day and half in-between shooting another movie by famous B-movie director Roger Corman.

However, despite my disappointment I might check this out....

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleyways and mugs them for loose grammar.

Finished it last night.
Very enjoyable overall. I maintain its not a horror though, I'd describe it as a dark suspense survival story.
Some brilliant scenes throughout such as the burning camp, the trial in the fog and the doctors last scene.
Definitely well worth a watch!

Nels you want to explain Hickeys motivations for me?

Spoiler:
did he believe in the end that he could become the new Shaman for Tunnbaq and that he had no intention of saving any of his party?

Spoiler:
I think he recognized another predator and wanted to join with it in some way, yes. He was talking about finding his equal with Captain Crozier, and implied that he wasn't talking about Crozier. I think he also saw that the shamans can exert some kind of power over it, and wanted in on that. His entire motivation was to get more control over everything around him. In the book they go into detail that the Tuunbaq wanted nothing to do with Hickey because he has such a tainted soul, and if I remember correctly, Tuunbaq leaves him to bleed out rather than eat him because of it.

Season 2 sounds fun. Completely original story, not being tied to a novel like this season:

Moving from the mid-1800s, the second season will be set during World War II and will follow an uncanny spectre that menaces a Japanese-American community from its home in Southern California to the internment camps to the war in the Pacific.

It has been co-created by Alexander Woo and Max Borenstein, with the duo also executive producing alongside Ridley Scott. Given that it's not based on a book like the first season, we can't yet make any educated guesses as to what the story will be about until more details land.
