My First KoW
Bottom of Turn 1:
Roman 1st Cohort advances into the village. Skirmishers on the right move at the double through difficult terrain. Russel Crowe follows. Cavalry moves at the double on the far right. Praetorians move into contact with blocking terrain. Celts bide their time and loose arrows into the right hand skirmishers while a group of Chariots wheel around the left flank of the Romans.
Bottom of Turn 2:
Skirmishers advance again At the Double and taking arrows for their troubles. The Roman cavalry clashed with the Celtic Cavalry, failed to route them, but we're routed in turn by a Celtic Counter Charge and a horny naked guy hitting the flank. (We later learned individuals don't double/triple their attack when attacking flank/rear).
Naked Horny guy... Druid(?)
Bottom of Turn 3:
On Roman right flank, the left Skirmishers we're routed while the right Skirmishers flank charge the Celtic Archers. The Celtic Cavalry turn to face the unstoppable Roman 1st Cohort as they wheel right. The Praetorians on the Roman left move to block a Chariot flank charge on the small Roman bolt thrower.
Bottom of Turn 4:
Sorry this image is rotated. My finger marks Russel Crowe attempting to hold the archers. His sacrifice was useless. The 1st cohort wheels to face the cavalry.
The Elite Praetorians make quick work of the Celtic Chariots but are effectively out of the game being so far left.
Bottom of Turn 5
The Celtic Cavalry was vanquished by the Roman Legion. They turn their attention to the archers, but will be held up by two heroes.
Last Turns devolve into the Romans marching through these two heroes. But never making contact with those pesky archers. My opponent struggled to make the points level and didn't have a strictly legal list as a result. We did some other things wrong. His archers (I think) as a regiment should not be in a line like that. Also I think his cavalry may be mis based as a line of 6. We realized, that individuals don't get flank/rear charge bonuses, and I don't think my Skirmishers would have as well. Late in the game we learned of a subtle difference between waivered nd disordered. Lastly we didn't realize until near the last turn that the winner gets a consolidation move of wheeling or advancing. No matter, it was fun!
