Good morning folks,

Back in 5th ed you could play a Blood Angel army with Jump Packs and their "Descent of Angels" rule.

I haven't picked up the new BA codex yet, but wanted to check if something like this was still possible? I think in 6th the rules changed that if you didn't have anything on board at the end of turn 1 you lost, so this was no longer possible.

Is there any chance an army like the old "Descent of Angels" could still be legally made? If I could field a list like this, anyone have suggestions on what it would look like?

Thanks for any help!

No, it's not. For many reasons.

For starters, you may only start with half your Power Level in reserves.

Secondly, you may only deep strike outside your deployment zone after turn 1.

Thirdly, BA jump units are a dumpster fire in 8th ed.

The only BA units getting any play are scouts and captains. And they are about to be replaced by SW units I bet.

Yeah, and they are both trash units after the big FAQ and the Drukhari codex. Almost unplayably bad now for their costs.

I suppose some explanation would help.

DC: 20 ppm for a one wound power armor body. Already bad. Sole job pre-FAQ was to clear chaff turn 1. Now, they have to wait till turn 2. That's too late. Too slow. The IG/Tau have already crippled your army by the time these guys can do anything.

Sang Guard: Dissy cannon murders them like grots. Necrons murder them like grots. Tau murder them like grots. Plasma scions murder them like grots. Too risky to bring, ever., given their price.

Thank you for the replies!

I have so many assault marines! Hah!

I still can't bring myself to sell them, they were my first 40k army.

Back to the drawing board to come up with an army to play.

Thanks gang!

Martel has some colorful opinions about BA, but you will find that people still play BA armies with jump units.

And lose miserably, probably.

I have 90 of these guys, mostly painted. No one wishes this were less true than i.

Assault squads with x2 plasma guns and maybe a plasma pistol on the sarge work well. You arnt going to dominate a major tournament but they're far from unplayable and can certainly compete.
