Hey guys, I'd love some feedback on this list I'm building towards. I want to have more of a mortal barbarian/oldschool Chaos Warrior theme than a hyper aggro Bloodbound theme in the army (my colour scheme is even brass/black metallic rather than the standard gold/bright red scheme). I paint alot more than I play, but my gaming circle is also not hyper competitive as far as I know. However, I've spent far too much time painting this army to have it not pack any punch at all so, I'd like to hear your comments on it.

Allegiance: Khorne

Home Realm: Ghur

Lord of Khorne on Juggernaut 140
-Artifact: Anraheir’s Claw (Realm Artifact, 6+ to wound = +2 dmg)

Aspiring Deathbringer 100
-Artifact: Collar of Khorne

Slaughterpriest 100
-Killing Frenzy

Bloodsecrator 140

Bloodstoker 80

10 Blood Warriors 200
-2x Goreaxes
-Gorecleaver

10 Chaos Warriors 180
-Hand weapons /Shields

10x Bloodreavers 70
-Ripper axes

10x Bloodreavers 70
-Ripper axes

3 Skullcrushers 140
-Glaives

5x Chaos Knights 160
-Hand weapons

5x Skullreapers 170
-Deamon weapons
-Soultearer

5x Skullreapers 170
-Deamon weapons
-Soultearer

Khorgorath 90

Battalion: Skulltake Battalion 190

Command points: 2

Allies: 340/400

Points: 2000/2000

My plan is to have the Knights and maybe the Juggers act as a fast anvil for the boosted infantry to hammer down on (I know handweapons on Knights aren't optimal, they're already painted though and they look damn cool with them too). For any bigger threats I think the Juggerlord can be a nice help, as his artifact synchronizes nicely with his abilities. I opted for a Collar of Khorne on the Asp. Deathbringer to further my magic defense.

As said, not hyper competitive local scene as far as I see it but I still want to be able to dish out some damage. Let me know what you think

Best regards,

I see a lack of consistency in this list. The fast part of the list is to small to be an anvil or to be something scary, they will run up be out of range of the rest of your army and be shred to pieces.

Also you have no major threats. No units that can really hurt the opponent, so he can focus right away on the buffing characters.

When you say it is something none competitive it is hard to give advice, as we have no idea what kind of lists you will be facing. i suppose you bring whatever you think is cool and do not care if you loose. So good luck.

Thanks alot for your reply!

Your pointers makes perfect sense ofcourse. I think it boils down to me not having much (or any) experience with AoS at 2k. My experience is mainly at 1k, where "one of each" can work out ok. My units are mostly based on what's cool and what I've already owned. Being a part-time hobbyist I think I'm in also in the old WHFB mindset still, where rank-and-file often won the day and big monsters were not really mandatory.

Is there any one or two units you would add/remove in this list to make it slightly more strong? I know Bloodthirsters and 3x30 Bloodletters is the easy answer but I'd like to keep it mortal, a bit original and most importantly not have to re-do the entire army

There are other ways then big monsters to be dangerous.

If you want to go mortal, look into gore pilgrims battalion.

A unit of wrathmongers can add to the +1 attack and is good defense against enemy hardhitters. (as you get to hit the big bad monster with itself if it kills one of them)

Maybe some bigger units here and there? A unit of 20-30 reavers. or a massive almost impossible to destroy block of chaos warriors?

I would make one big unit of the skullreapers. The units of 5 are to easy to pick off.

If everything is on foot, a warshrine might be worth considering. And it is an awesome model to paint.

The cavalry is a bit of a question mark here. I would take more or take none.

I've looked at Gore Pilgrims and I understand it's probably the most competitive battalion for BoK, however it's just not to my taste to base my army around Slaughterpriests I've also seen the uses of Wrathmongers, might add a unit of them later on.

Adding the two 10-man Bloodreaver units to a block of 20 is ofcourse a a no-brainer.

What do you think about dropping the Knights for 10 more Bloodreavers + 5 Chaos Warriors or another Khorgorath? Remember they get a bit stronger with the Skulltake battalion.

Alternatively, any character I could drop to make room for Wrathmongers?

If you drop the knights, drop the skull crushers too. You need a larger part of at least say 600 pts to make a seperate part with different speed of an army work.
