So this is my first try at a scratch built unit. I am operating on a tight budget, so I buy a lot of random stuff on ebay and us them to kitbash different units together (my storm shield Veterans are gonna be awesome, coming soon).

In one of the boxes I got off of ebay are a bunch of legs and torso that are OLD. Not 100% they are even GW, but they probably date back to Rogue Trader days. I had the idea to use them to make some scouts for my Blood Angel successor chapter. My chapter will (one day) have a japanese theme, so my thought had been to make a more ninja-like group with black cloaks and ninja masks. Unfortunately, ninja masks are impossible to make at this size with my skill level, and I don't have the cash to buy heads off the internet, so I had to give up that idea (one day!). But the black cloaks stayed - this guys are masters of the night. It also made them easier to paint

First, I used Oyumaru and Green Stuff to make additional legs, then made torso out of green stuff and bits. The sniper rifles are old-style bolt rifles that have been chopped with tooth picks and a straw. More bits for belt packs and pistol holsters

I made the camo cloaks out of auto shop towels (the blue ones). I soaked them in a 50/50 mix of Elmers glue and water and let it harden. I made the Sarge magnetic, in case I want to change his load-out.

Spray paint it black.

And Painted Them. I'm a very basic paint, so if anyone has suggestions for ways to make this look better (besides more practice), I would love to hear it. The cloaks are Grey underside, and Black on top, and they look a little too flat. But I want to keep them basically black (no camo or something). Any suggestions to spruce it up?

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the end result. They look pretty decent, and I got a $20 squad of scouts for the cost of Green Stuff and less than $5 in bits from Ebay.

Hope you like it!

Pictures aren't working on my computer, let alone the phone.

Gaming related pictures can be uploaded to your gallery here on dakka.

Otherwise a hosting site might be an idea.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Fixed the Photos - I was hosting on my Google Pictures account and that requires a login to view. Looked great on my PC, but no one elses.

Now hosted on the forum gallery. Enjoy!
