Hello,

I am wondering what are good uses of Chaplains, I've seen blood angels with Lemartes but that's about it.

I was thinking about a group of assault terminator, they come on the battlefield with the chaplain, charge (they use the reroll), before pile-in the chaplain tries the charge (now he's without reroll), if he fails the pile-in is done so that one of the terminators lags behind within 6'' of the chaplain (probably won't fight)

Rerolling hit rolls for hammers is quite good, would it be any good in a real fight?

One problem with Chaplains is that they buff CC units. Marine CC units are not particularly efficient, and shooting tends to be far more powerful mechanically. Thus we don’t see a lot on the table.

Which is a shame, because they are awesome, but in lore and looks.

Deep strike assaulting is a little tricky. You need a hefty bit of luck to make it work reliable without special rules (which we don’t have). I have tried what you suggest, and it can work. I’ve also done it with shooty terminators. Land, stombolter AsC things. Next turn the survivors pile in and work something over with the powerfists. Might not be tournament quality play, but was fun.

Sadly I don't think GW put much if any thought into chaplains. Re-rolls to hit in close combat aren't that useful for most SM units, and chapter masters give the same buff but also give it for shooting. The leadership buff would be good for other armies, but Marines rarely care about leadership.

It's generally better to just have a captain and Lt around as it helps in both shooting and assault and the two buffs combine to be about as good.

Thanks so basically it's situational, I thought there was some way to buff also at 9 " , in the way that terminators can charge and get the buff without leaving people trailing behind. Not yet:( too bad

Black Templar have a relic that lets one guy add 3” to his auras. There might be more, but none spring immediately to mind.

If you're like me, and still enjoy Assault Marines, they can be useful to get backfield and grind some cheap infantry holding backfield objectives. Recently in a game against IG, two squads of five Assault Marines dropped with chainswords and both made their charges to get into close combat. That's 10 chainsword attacks per unit that could be more lethal with a Chaplain. As you might guess, that IG infantry went through a blender that could be made worse.

It could be good against tougher infantry too just by means of throwing dice at the problem but it's less advised. Chaplains are situational in my opinion, but 8th edition seems to favor armies that can do a little of this and a little of that.

Or don't use the Assault Marine entry and use them as Vanguard instead.
