Do many people play non-standard points games?
I have it in my head that standard games are 500, 750, 1000, 1500, 2000, etc. But on the first page of the 40k Army Lists sub-forum I can see 800 and 1850 too. My army's currently 600 but I always assumed I ought to increase that to 750 to make it easier to get games...

The LVO uses 1850 so that's a standard in and of itself.
I've also played quite a few games at 1250.

I've never come across people who want to play games under 1000 points personally. When I played in 5th we used to play mostly 1200/1250pts at the local GW. Since coming back to 8th I've only played 1000pt and 2000pt games with the 2000 games being 2v2 with points divided how each side chooses. I like to prepare lists for 1000, 1250, 1500, 1750 and 2000 myself. If I had an opponent who wanted to play a game at some value in the middle somewhere I'd do up a list if I could with the models I had on me but I wouldn't actively seek out a game like that.

I don't live in TN anymore but one of the best LGSs (Grand Adventures Comics & Games) hosts a yearly tournament with 1863pt armies. The scenarios are based on a river cut through the middle of the board. It's based on a Civil war battle that happened in that town in....wait for it....1863. I'm starting to really prefer games under 1000pts for fun. The meta can be pretty different when you can't bring as many "toys". It makes 'meh' units have more purpose and actually get to contribute. It's also faster -

At flgs we play just 1.5k and 2k. At home it's "points? What points?"

Not in 8th edition. The standard for matched play is 2000 points.
1500 is no good. Some factions do not have enough points to deal with various aspects in the meta. In essence, at lower point levels powerful units have more of an impact on the game, and being unable to deal with them makes for very one-sided games.

My brother and I have a rule where if we play at our house ( we have a table and terrain) we play 1300+ (2d6*100). Its just so that we dont always play 2k games and force ourselves into different lists.

Most the games I play are 2500. I much prefer this point level to anything. It lets you bring all your toys.

I have played several games at 1300 points. I just did a game at 1100 points last week because that was the biggest list my friend could make with his Orks.

The standard in my small group that I game with regularly is 1250 or 1500, but that's mainly because we play Tokenhammer most of the time now. It slows the game down a bit, but makes smaller games more enjoyable so it's been a nice mix.
2v2 games are generally 1250 a player as well.
We're always talking about the occasional apocalypse game, and I'm planning to try a "Micropocalypse" game at some point. I would play just about any point level that someone wants to play, even if it's oddball at 1135 points or whatever. It makes no difference. I think the only reason people stick to fixed 250 or 500 point increments is because of the popularity of those games, meaning you don't have to change lists constantly (doesn't stop me from doing so). I know a lot of people who have a 1250, 1500, 1750 and 2000 list...all of which are more or less set in stone.

I've just seen that a local group run a monthly gaming night where they play 800 points so perhaps that should be my next target rather than 750?
