I figured I'd either drop 20 Devourer Termagants (60 shots) or a surprise Carnifex that becomes something the opponent all of a sudden has to pay attention to while I move the rest of my army to capture objectives or kill off enemy models.

So, is it worth the money and points to have one in a 2000 point Tyranid list or have you found that there are better ways (tunneling with a Trygon for example) for getting troops to pop up on the board where you want them?

Thanks in advance.

Tyranids dont have anything other than a Swarmlord worth putting in it. Its grossly overcosted (just like the Drop pod is).

Trygons are 40pts more and iw ould still take one of them over a Tyrannocyte, at least it will have a change to do damage.

I really like the kit for what it's worth! Got one a few days ago and I think it's very cool.

I haven't had a chance to field it yet, but I do have concerns. The main thing I plan to do with it is drop my Broodlord next to Stealers from a Trygon.

I would certainly be better off just using Jormungandr instead, but I want to stick to Kraken as it makes my list messy to mix Hive Fleets and it feels a bit too much like meta gaming for my tastes.

That aside, I'm not too sure. I'm definitely going Barbed Stranglers though as it feels like the only way to make its shooting worth a damn!

I like the model a lot, but It's hard to figure out what to do with it, transport wise. A Tyrannofex with Acid Spray is on my list for it, as is forward deploying a Tervigon to build a new front alongside swarms of gants. But both of those are pretty dependent on how the rest of the army is used.

Hmm... Could be worth it with a Maleceptor too, against the right opponent.

We clearly aren't talking tournament tier lists here though.

I don't play in tournaments. But, tyranid models seems to be overly expensive by comparison to other models. I'm not sure if it's because of the amount of plastic they come with or what. But, like $66 for three Zoanthropes/Venomthropes with an option to make one of them into a Neurothrope. Just seems way, way, way too expensive to me. They are larger models, and I understand that. But, you can get like 20 Gants/Gaunts for that. You can get close to 20 Tac Marines for that price (at $40 per box of 10). Tyranid prices, on the whole, just seem overly expensive. While I know it's not a Drop Pod, Drop Pods are less than $40 and a very complex build with a lot of little pieces and plastic. That's why I'm trying to find out if a Tyrannocite is actually worth the money and points. Yes, it can carry twice as many rank and file infantry as a Drop Pod. And, yes, it can carry heavy support still (where a Drop Pod can no longer carry Dreadnoughts). But, still... it's a lot of money and points for what it does when compared to something similar for other armies.

Ok, so with that information about your position in mind I would say no, it's not worth it for you. Money to impact ratio is poor for the Tyrannocyte.

I'd say just get a Tyrannofex or Hive Tyrant. Or a second of either if you have them! That would give you a real threat on the table and for a fair bit less money. If you want something a bit different maybe even a Harpy, still cheaper too.

If you don't have Venoms, yes they're a little pricey money wise but they are sooooo good. I just got a second box too so I can run 4 Venomthropes (so the enemy has to put 6 wounds on the unit before they stop covering MONSTERS) and I built 2 Neurothropes, who did incredibly well in my last game, I love them.

I have three Zoanthropes (to help hold Synapse), but I haven't really used them. I wouldn't mind some Venomthropes. I might look into those.

Have a go running one or two of your Zoans as Neuros. I'm sure most opponents wouldn't mind, they obviously look very similar!

Apart from throwing out loads of mortal wounds, they're also the cheapest HQ we have, which is very handy for filling out detachments.

^ Thumbs up on the Zoanthropes for Neurothropes, since they're basically the same model anyways. I never have fewer than 2 Neuros in my armies. Too useful for Synapse cover, and excellent Smiting ability since they can reroll 1s for psychic tests.

True, I don't think the Tyrannocyte is useful enough for a tourney thing.

I agree about the Maleceptor though. I've been looking at it more since I've been seeing more Custodes on the table. Since Smite's get harder the more you cast, you can smite with your Neurothropes or whatever, and then start psychic-bombing with the Maleceptors.

In Tyranids you really need to commit to melee or shooting.

In a shooting Tyranids list, a Malanthrope is a must have. Keeping your guns alive is far more important than potentially dishing out some smites.

In a melee list, a Neurothrope is better because it'll be in range to smite things.
