Is Kill Team experiencing, "release creep" with the new Kill Team Commanders book addition?
can we play in an enjoyable way without it against someone who is using it to the fullest capacity?

By that I mean if I go to my local shops upcoming tournament for KT, will I be at a strong disadvantage without the 2nd book?

I am not a power gamer, but don't want to get into a game that is now seeing further releases which may make it hard to keep up.
I don't want a continual money sink.

Haven't bought the rule book yet. This sudden commander release has kind of turned me off.
Thoughts?

A. Nobody knows. The book isn't out yet.
B. There is no other point. Anything else is just speculation at best and nerd rage/panic at worst.

As far as we can tell from RT commander is a different game mode with different points levels and different missions.

So you're either playing a commander mission or you're playing a regular mission. You won't be playing a non-commander team against a commander team.

Very helpful info Scott, thank you. Hoping to pick up basic KT book today if back in stock at my local shop.

Do note, that's just based on how commanders work in RT. We have no idea if the commander expansion will be different.

So far haven't all the missions provided the ground rules for team selection?

"Select your battleforged killteam following the guidelines on pg##" or something to that effect. I think we're safe in assuming there will still be games/campaigns/tourneys running at 100pts, sans commander.

Probably.

But maybe the commanders expansion will have a statement adding the commander option to the team selection rules in the core book or say that a commander can be selected as part of the team in any mission.

As for campaigns and tourneys that's up to the organisers. Quite possible that a lot will go for a mixture of commander and non-commander missions.

Watching a single high level commander trying to squash 20 guardsmen before time runs out is going to be hilarious.

Honestly, I think getting a Commander in at 100 points is gonna be difficult to pull off properly

If commanders are added as a regular unit (I doubt it but we don't know) then you aren't going to select him against guard. Against some of the factions that are usually 4-5 models a good commander could be very effective (depending on mission, which you also know before you select).

Vhane is 45 and can have a plenty of supports. I imagine a guard commander might clock, what, 30? That's like 6 plasma guns (and the useless schmucks to carry them) in support.
