My army was built back when a Heavy Weapon Team comprised two models - a loader and a gunner - and I cut my transport foam trays accordingly. Now that I'm getting back into the hobby I find that they're single models on a 60 mm base, necessitating a re-basing. As I have sixty Heavy Weapons Teams this is no small task.

Option A: Proper re-basing them all would cost $100 (GW Bases are 3 for $5), a new carrying case and many, many hours of work & painting.

Option B: A hundred 60 mm disks from Litko would cost $16, and spraying them green & flocking the lot would take half a day. I would have a bag of loose bases, upon which I would place my existing models - the footprint would be correct, and I could remove the loader to indicate the loss of a wound.

What're your opinions - what do you feel are the, pros & cons of each option? What other options do I have? What's tournament legal? What would you allow in a friendly game? Should I just bite the bullet and spend the time & money to properly re-base them?

Germany

I have no idea about the tournament aspect - but i assume what counts are 60mm, so i see absolutely no reason why it would maky any difference...
Besides, i will do it in almost the same way... take any 60mm base and make at least the loader removeable.

Well for starters do NOT buy GW bases for that. There's cheaper plastic bases anyway so for 60 teams(that's a bloody lot) paying GW prices would be....well expensive.

So either 3rd party bases or B.

$100!? A quick eBay search showed listings of x100 60mm for ~$25. Pricey for what they are, but nowhere near a hundred.

Last I heard, GW suggests using the size the model was originally packed with, though I can’t confirm as I’m out of date on tournament standards.
The Litko option is fine; current heavy weapons are supplied with 60mm, so the base footprint should be indisputable. Personally, I get OCD about having a consistent beveled edge, but if the straight edge on Litko’s is satisfactory, then more power to you; it would be the least invasive form of rebasing.
