My nephew has joined an ongoing campaign utilising the Death Guard half of the dark imperium box set, listed below. Generally our games are 2000 points so I want to help him build his list up too that level. As a long time follower of tzeentch I have limited knowledge of nurgle servants and so thought I'd ask some advice. The majority of armies he'll be facing are elite primaris lists and so I'd like to center his focus on being able to take those lists on. I may have acces to a few other death guard dark imperium sets if that would help. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What your nephew needs is plasma guns. Lots of them. Conveniently, Plague Marine squads can take 3 (the champion can take one), so maybe another two squads of 5 or 7 men each with that configuration. Also, with a pure DG detachment they can fire two shots of rapid fire weapons up to 18" so they're a lot deadlier than they'd otherwise be.

In order to make maximum use of these, you'll want to be overcharging most of the time, so I'd recommend a bog-standard chaos lord or better yet - a Daemon Prince for a re-roll 1s to hit bubble so the PMs don't fry themselves.

The Blightbringer can be good with poxwalkers to run them up the board, but I think with the current rules and FAQs poxwalkers should be used as screens to stop his pesky inceptors/reivers from dropping down too close to your plague marine squads. Therefore, there's no big need for the Blightbringer - personally I would run him as another Malignant Plaguecaster for more psychic support and mortal wound shenanigans.

The bloat drone is good, pretty tanky, and probably wants a friend or two - definitely keep it with the plaguespitters, or maybe switch it out for fleshmowers if you want some CC support. This is also good if you get a Daemon Prince with wings, who can fly off with the drones to form a mobile attack wing (and an Outrider detachment to boot).

Sadly the Lord of Contagion is a bit 'meh' what with being slow, fat, and lacking any ranged weapons. He could be good with a bit of support - Deathshroud are nice - but otherwise he's not essential for a good list but I'd be inclined to take him anyway - it's a great model.
