Hi guys,

I need some help please choosing some Vallejo paints.

I plan on painting my Tyranid army similar to the "standard" hive fleet leviathan colours, so: White skin, with red wash, purple carapace.

But instead of using purple for the carapace, I though about doing it blue.

I would like it to be dark blue, like the purple is a dark colour, I am after similar in blue. A link of kinda what I am after is below:

https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/419980-Blue,%20Ice,%20Nids,%20Tyranids,%20White.html

However this is for batch painting potentially hundreds of Tyranids, so I would like to keep it to base coat/wash/highlight - possibly a second highlight but no more than that. Also probably wouldnt go quite as bright with the highlights as that picture (no offence to the author, its a bit bright for me)

I am also not averse to using GW paints if necessary, looking through the Vallejo paint chart, I don't think there is going to be a suitable blue wash??? as the blue wash "73.207 Blue Wash" (I have it already) is going to be too light in colour.

Any advice would be great, thanks guys.

I'm not too familiar with Vallejo but there are conversion charts available. In Citadel paint terms I'd start with Kantor Blue, wash with Drakenhof Nightshade (you can mix in some Nuln Oil if you want to darken the wash) and highlight wiith Alaitoc Blue. For a second highlight or an edge highlight you can use Hoeth Blue.

By the way I recommend getting the Citadel paint app. It's really useful particularly when trying to find colorschemes.

Dark Prussian Blue base, Prussian Blue/Dark Prussian Blue layer, then a Prussian blue feathered edge highlight and done, two colours, no wash unless you want the recessed areas to be 'dirty' where a brown wash would work nicely

Thanks for your replies guys. That painting app is very handy, I ran the colour through that and checked the vajello equivalents.

In the end I went for imperial blue as a base (VGC), drakenhof nightshade as a wash (GW), then electric blue as a dry brush/highlight (VGC).

I also picked up a pot of Skink blue (GW dry paint) that I could potentially use as a second very lightly applied dry brush.

I am 3 Grey Knights off starting my Tyranids so I'll report back with the results.
